It's satisfying my life partner. After 50 years of marriage, she demands some things HER way. LOL. We are now thinking about a move to be closer to our bestest friends who moved to Norman, Ok. They visited yesterday and have got us thinking very seriously. We'd be about $1200 a month ahead in our budget over living where we are. Right now, we own our home but have to pay lot rent of $1000 a month plus utilities. And since the park has been taken over by a management company, we know that the rent is going to keep going up every year until they get all the sites up to market prices. Right now, that would be about $1325 a month. For what our home is worth, we can own a sticks and bricks house there and not have the expenses we have now. Even with the high property taxes and homeowners insurance, we'd be waaay ahead. AND, gas is more than a $1 a gallon cheaper there. And, I love their politics way more than here. new2woodwrk
Rockytime
Ray, I have friends that sold their home in Aurora and moved to Oklahoma. I have other friends who sold their home in Hudson and are moving to OK on the 22nd of this month. All I can say is hang on to your hat. That's tornado alley. Scrappile
I hear you @octoolguy, where I live homes are still on the reasonable side, but quickly rising. Our daughter keeps bugging us to move somewhere closer to her. She lives in Portland, Ore. Prices in Portland are way, I mean, way out of our budget. The old home they bought 10 years ago for around $250K is now worth well over $500K. She keeps sending me realitor listings and none are even close to the house/land we have but priced far more then we could get for ours.... Then there is my son. Lives in Memphis, Tenn. Just bought a beautiful house almost twice a big as ours, brick, just a beautiful home on 2.7 acres with a nice fish pond. Less than $500K. And even more important, he talks to people about things he would like to do on the land and house, asks what permit, licenses, rules to follow, things to worry about and they look at him like "what are you talking about?,,,, it is your land and home do what you want..." Huh,,,??? not where I live. I have to get a permit to burn some weeds, or make a little shed... and I live out in the sticks.... big brother wants a piece of everything I do... I live in Washington. Oh my,,, you got me off in a tangent. Sorry... I will shut up. OCtoolguy

Oh my,,, you got me off in a tangent. Sorry... I will shut up. Paul, there is going to be an election tomorrow in L.A. County. One item on the ballot only. And you can bet your bottom dollar that every education union member will be turning out to vote for it. It's a tax measure to increase property taxes within the county and supposedly all the money is going to give teachers pay raises and smaller classes and so on. It will never happen but the thing is, if you own a home within the area, your property taxes will go up a ton. For a 3000 sq. ft. home, they figure it will be an additional $500. Even patios and garages will be taxes on it. It's sickening what they are doing here. I have been wanting to leave ever since we came in off the road. But Barb said no. Now, after visiting with our friends yesterday, she is truly listening and thinking on it. They bought in a development, got a nice corner lot and have built a 1900 sq. ft. home with 3 car garage and a safe room in the center of the house. Very nice home for $250k plus the upgrades they are doing. Of course, they sold their $30k home here in Orange Co. for over $800k. So, they could have built anything they wanted to. Anyway, we could sell our mobile home for more than we paid for it and buy a home there, pay cash for it and sit back and relax with no crappy government like we have here. We are very close to pulling the trigger. We are going to fly back there in September and look around. More on this later. This is a pic of their home prior to finishing all the landscaping and concrete work. Edited June 4, 2019 by octoolguy
scrollingforsanity
Just got back from three weeks vacation. Almost had to buy a boat to get back. Went to Missouri, it rained and then rained some more. Rained in Iowa, rained In South Dakota, Rained in Montana. Finally get back home to Oregon and everything back to normal, 82 degrees no rain. Mowed the yard, planted a late garden and worked in the shop sanding ornaments. No rain. grizz OCtoolguy

Although we went to Portland a little over a week ago and left the Tri-Cities, it was raining and had been for several days. Got to Portland and it was sunny and beautiful. That does not happen often to us. Usually the other way around. Glad you are back, I was starting to get worried.... Heppnerguy is coming in a couple weeks. Maybe we can work it so the three of us can get together.... OCtoolguy
scrollingforsanity
Let me know Paul that sounds great, I have been bust and haven't seen you for a while . There were Tornados within 50 miles of where we were but we got lucky and didn't get hit. Lots of big hail but again got lucky this time. When we came out of Springfield Mo there was 2 foot of water over the freeway. They were getting ready to close it but I made it through. Every campground was a mud pit. And I forgot about the humidity since I have been gone from there for 43 years. It Sucks. grizz OCtoolguy

I get inside the store and I had better find the "bano". tomsteve and Rockytime 1

I can't wait, they finally broke ground here and are going to up a Harbor Freight - having to drive an hour into San Antonio and deal with their traffic just isn't something I am willing to do. tomsteve and OCtoolguy
