Best new saw if price no object

Many years ago after trying a few different scroll saws I purchased an old Vintage Homecraft Scroll Saw. During that time I was spending hours every day out in my shop using a saws.  My hands would hurt due to the vibration of the saws I was using almost to the point it was hard to make a fist. After I bought the Homecraft that pain went away, it was one of the smoothest running saws I ever owned. After some time went by, like most of you out there, I started wanting a new saw. I bought a brand new Excalibur that at the time came with all the goodies and I fell in love with it. After I got my new saw and experienced how nice it was I made the big mistake of selling the old Homecraft. I soon found out the Ex- also vibrated but just not as bad as the other saws that use to hurt my hands. I still have the Excalibur but I stopped spending hours on the saw. I found out that the best saw is the one you are most comfortable with.

I see many of these old saws on C/L all the time. Cheap! $20-100. I never gave them much attention because I figured they had served their purpose and been replaced with newer, better technology. Interesting to hear you say that. Check out C/L and you may find one like you sold.

The advantage of that style of saw is you have an absolutely vertical stroke. The down side is that the blade tension is controlled by a spring in the head. so you get a variable blade tension through the stroke.  Not sure how much of an impact that has, it would be nice to get some feedback on that from anyone that has one of these.

As I recall I never had any problem with the blade tension. I think the secret was not to push your work faster than the saw could cut.

This is good advice for any scroll saw and blade.

Work that birthday and use the sad puppy dog eyes. I'm 60 and my wife caught on to that years ago, maybe it will work for you. RJF

My wife doesn't bat an eye when I want to buy something because she knows that when she wants something, I never say no. She has more shoes than Emelda Marcos.

I just tell her I didn't hear her...  You know the old "when did you say that?" question.  "You must have been on my left side when you said no... you know I can't hear out of that side..."  Actually I am a big boy and I do what I want..... ooppppss!  Got to sign off the computer quick....

You old dog, you aren't any different than the rest of us old farts. I also have "selective " hearing. I hear what I want to hear when I want to hear it.

I do not say anything when my wife wants something for her Husqvarna embroidery machine or quilting things.  It works the same for my tools.

I have looked at all the machines discussed and really thought about the Pegas but just do not see a big difference for what I do.  My Hegner is still a great machine.
