kmmcrafts Posted July 11, 2019 Report Share Posted July 11, 2019 This came up on my FB Memories this morning so I thought I'd show you the inside of my shop.. In the background of some of the pictures you can see my other shop too.. There is two things today that I have to say about this shop... Boy did it fill up fast.. and I should have built a bigger shop, LOL That lean too on the one side there is just a porch.. I've really been considering adding one to the other side to expand my wood shop over to there to free up that one bay.. I originally built this for wood shop only and using the other shop to work on cars etc.. But in putting up this shop they accidentally cut the power line to the old shop.. and the old shop is in rough shape.. so I wasn't going to hook the power back up since the complete electrical was not close to being up to code etc.. probably a good thing it got cut off because the wiring was really old and in rough shape.. probably would of burnt the place down anyway, LOL The dog in that one photo is making sure we was doing everything correctly and in the other photo he is guarding the contents.. I thought so too when I first built it.. now it's so full of stuff there is hardly room to turn around in there... LOL Mostly just needs finished and some shelving put up etc.. and organized.. even as un organized as it is... So we moved to the typical sub-division. With a two car garage in which she insists on having her car. So sad! A garage is for tools. A car shed is for cars. You did it right Kevin. YOU DA MAN! I'm thinking of extending the front of my shop 3 feet and put up a vinyl fence for privacy so I can move my bandsaw outside and maybe get a real table saw. Not having room I replaced it with a portable saw from Lowe's. Under $200. I won't build furniture with it or do fine segmenting but for what I do it is perfect. I wheel it out onto the driveway two or three times a day. A tap of the toe and it sets up on it's frame. Another tap of the toe and it folds up ready to wheel back in place. Very quick and easy. He had it up on eBay and it turned out that he was only a few minutes from me. I got to check it out prior to bidding. When I saw what great condition it was in, I just paid him and told him to cancel the listing. Then I ordered the stand from Dewalt when they were on sale. I'm in about $250. I have taken it completely apart and lubed, adjusted and tightened everything that I could. It does a pretty good job. If I get my fence up, I may just leave it up in my driveway. I don't do any work that really requires a high end saw.. in fact. the only thing I use my table saw for is splitting up my plywood to the size I need.. I just have a very cheap Tradesman table saw that I bought before I even got into woodworking.. I needed a power saw for a home remodel job I was doing.. the table saw was on sale for $59 and came with a stand.. I bought a dust bag thing from HF and added it.. Technically I probably could get by without the table saw and just dig out my handheld circular saw.. My table saw started smoking two years ago and I finally broke down and took it apart to find a bad bearing in the gearbox.. Parts were Obsolete for the gearbox but I pressed the old bearing out and went to the local bearing supply shop got a match and it's lasted me another couple years so far.. LOL It's nice to have the thing at times.. even though i could get by without it.. I've grown used to using it that when it was broke for a few weeks with that bearing I found it to be a pain in the behind to dig out the handheld saw.. No, I've been busy doing these compound cuts and I needed the drill press to drill the holes in them. Once I get done with it, I"m going to tear it apart. I just know that as soon as I do, I'll need it right away. I almost bought a drill press yesterday on C/L. It was a really nice restored Craftsman bench model with a keyless chuck. He was asking $120 for it. A steal but I was too slow on the draw. He sold it to the guy just ahead of me. Yeah, mine is 24 x 32 and I'm sure happy I spent a little more for that style roof because the loft is 14 x 32.. plus I put flooring behind the trusses where the wall would be and I store my totes with finished scroll work in them.. plenty of overhead storage for lumber etc.. actually the loft is a workout room and mancave so to speak with fridge, microwave TV etc.. weights and stationary bike etc etc etc.. Workout room? Why would anybody want to intentionally make sweat? I've considered that too. The reason I was looking at the old Craftsman is, it is the only drill press I've ever seen that has a quill lock on it. That is such a handy thing to have that when you don't have it, you'll miss it. Just being able to bring the quill down with a sanding drum in it or whatever the reason, and just turn the little lever on the left side, then the quill stays where you put it.
