Rockytime
Ray, you have to stop giving me ideas! You just caused me to spend $74.90 on the quick release. STOP IT! Now I have $100 for the saw, $74.90 for the tension release, $3.17 for a knob plus the cost of the 8' bolt. In addition gas to get the saw and then I bought lunch for my friend and I which was over $25. Lord, where will it ever end? The good news is I'll end up with a great little saw. Just have to work out dust collection. Hegner has one for my saw but I can work something out. jbrowning
Here you go. This is the video I got my design from Rockytime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFM_jylYziY&t=17s Jim Edited July 24, 2019 by jbrowning OCtoolguy
Rockytime
Thank you. It looks good. I'kk watch it. Also the long bolt to tighten the tilt, I took it off and replaced it with a metric hex bolt. I will perhaps never tilt the bed. If I do I have lots of wrenches. Also, the little thing that flips over the lower clamp, I removed it also. This little saw will work great. Thanks for the photo too. jbrowning and OCtoolguy

Well, you were probably going to spend the lunch money anyway so all I'm responsible for is the tension lever assy. And you know you need it. I take it you got blade clamps and a clamp wrench with the saw? jbrowning

OCtoolguy
Just now, Rockytime said: Yes I got the clamps. The wrench is just a clock winding key You would know that. I had to spend $20 on one. Oh well, I got it all back when I sold it. I'm keeping an eye on the one that is here locally. It has a stand and is also variable speed but I just can't justify $200 for something that I don't need. I just want it. Maybe next week if it is still available. jbrowning
Rockytime
Got the dust collection completed today. Complicated system. 4 1/2" rare earth magnets. jbrowning and OCtoolguy 1

stoney
Les you can make a similar to the Hegner upgrade tension release. I made one for an old 16" Craftsman. Just go to ebay and do a search for a cam lever. They are available with different threads to screw onto your rod. Unfortunately the Hegner one for $74 will arrive tomorrow. Not sure why but I sometimes do things on impulse. Never thought of the obvious but thanks anyway. stoney, OCtoolguy and jbrowning

I can still get the one nearby me for $200 but it has no stand. You got a great deal. jbrowning and Rockytime

You are welcome and not alone Les, most of us buy on impulse sometimes but like Ray said you got a great deal on the saw. I just thought maybe I could catch you in time and save you a little cash. jbrowning, OCtoolguy and Rockytime 2

I just thought maybe I could catch you in time and save you a little cash. Thanks for bringing that up.. I'm kinda looking out for a Hegner.. Not been too many around lately... now that I have some cash.. but boy there was some deals a month or two ago when I was broke, LOL.. Real nice 22" newer one a while back for $250.. and not far from me.. I had a hard time passing on it.. but didn't want to stretch the cash too thin.. Should have bought it and then sold the older Hawk I have.. as Les said earlier "Sometimes one has to ignore good sense." Rockytime
Put the quick release on and it works well. But...as Stoney said this can be made with a bolt, spring, washer and $6 cam lever. Gonna cut some word art from !" pine and run it through some paces. stoney, OCtoolguy, jbrowning and 1 other 3
OCtoolguy
Actually Les, it sounds like you are having the same problems moving from your Hawk to your Hegner as I am having switching from my EX to my Hawk. I think I finally have the Hawk figured out. I kept thinking all my blades were too short until I watched the video a couple of times. Then the light came on. But, having the quick clamp will make it a lot easier. Now, if they would just make the quick release for the little one. I'll bet a good machinist could come up with one. If the new clamp works as Hegner claims I should not need the quick release besides where can I find a machinist? OCtoolguy

Rockytime
I ordered the quick clamp from Hegner Saturday evening which means I have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday. Last night I just made a temporary clamp. It works perfect and was too late to cancel the order. So today I gave the saw it's first taste of cutting.
