Popular Post Frank Pellow Posted August 8, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted August 8, 2019 I made this for friends who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in November. Pauline and Dave are very musical and have been members of the best choirs (both classical and barbershop) in Canada. In Dave's case, it's the best in the world since his choir won the World Barbershop championship about three years ago. The word design comes from Keith Fenton and the music on each side is my modification of a Steve Good design. The dark wood is Roasted Ontario Hard Maple and the light wood is Padauk. meflick, Fab4, amazingkevin and 11 others 13 1 Quote
oldhudson Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 Excellent work. I know padauk can turn very dark, did you treat it with anything to minimize that effect? Frank Pellow 1 Quote

I've seldom used Padauk and I was unaware that it can darken, but I guess that I am not surprised. Oh well, I can always hope that this does not darken too much. Quote
spirithorse Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 Beautiful work, Frank, Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse Frank Pellow 1 Quote

There really isn’t anything you can do to stop it from turning brown. I have a plaque I made with Padauk. It was a bright orange when I cut it a few years ago. Now, it’s a dark brown. Quote

So, it appears that my decision to match the orange padauk with a contrasting brown wood (roasted maple) will prove to be a bad choice. Quote
Rockytime Posted August 9, 2019 Report Posted August 9, 2019 Whatever the wood, you did a magnificent job! Frank Pellow 1 Quote

Based on my limited experience with padauk (I made a couple of end tables with that wood) and purchased finish with a UV blocker. Today they look like Brazilian rosewood. Nice but not what I was looking for. Live and learn. Quote
wombatie Posted August 9, 2019 Report Posted August 9, 2019 It looks fabulous. Great work Frank. I hope you find a solution to the browning problem. Marg Frank Pellow 1 Quote
