Weird Wood

I'm confused about a lot of things but this time it is about plain old pine boards.I cut lot's of pine as I don't sell my cuttings so I don't use many hard woods aside from Poplar and Oak. I brought home some 1" boards from HD. The one by four is smooth on one side only. The other side is extremely rough. It is also thicker than a regular 1" board. I'm thinking it just happened to miss the planer on one side.

Based on you pictures it looks like western red cedar.  I think it is also called Giant Cedar or Pacific Cedar.  Western red cedar can vary in color from almost white to almost as dark as walnut.   In fact I took a beginners intarsia class from Judy Gale Roberts and that was all we used.  Look at the colors on this.  Except for the eye ball it is all western red cedar.1791863138_triggerfishfinal.thumb.JPG.4d9e51b343d3149723d5d64c944367b8.JPG
