Calling All Puzzle Zombies or Zombie Wannabe's

Can't get my head around Amish rules myself. My parents bought a house that had a cabinet build by an Amish craftsman and they wanted another. We drove there to get an estimate. The house had no electricity. The shop was wired with a large compressor that powered all air tools. Its OK to use air tools that is powered by electricity, but not the electricity? Saw a Amish computer, I guess must be approved. Its not OK, but it OK with this one? The way they live is fine with me. The logic evades me.

Not all Amish live the same. I take my horses to Amish north of me. They don’t use anything electric or gas power. Also use open buggies everything on steel wheels.              I brought a piece of hay equipment from a Amish man in southern Indiana. They use tractors on steel wheels, gas generator for cow milking an closed buggies.            Amish 15 miles from me pull a gas power unit behind horses to run PTO for hay baler.

I believe Harvey doesn’t cut anything, just does the design with pencil and paper then mails to Scott, RJ

Actually he and his son cut a lot of puzzles, it's a big part of their business.  Harvey has someone who manages sales of the puzzles on ETSY for him just as one source.

Ok, but I thought they were not allowed to use electricity to operate the saw, or are they cutting by hand, RJ

They use propane for lighting and general power and they use Excalibar saws.  He also is allowed to use the phone in town to conduct business.  It's 7 miles from his home/shop.  The town offers a car service for the Amish and will pick-up and drop-off.  Every once in a while they will go into town via horse and buggy.

Here is the info about the expo.. They will have demonstrations etc going on.. huge tool and lumber discounts.. vendors will also be there.. It's a great time if you're able to make it there..

Not only the show goes on but also just downtown Charlotte they have happenings going on because it's Charlotte Frontier Days... They have a craft show happening on the courthouse lawn.. different things going on throughout the town and the fair grounds.. Here is a little info on that as well if you or family might be interested.. BTW.. The town is busy so plan ahead of time to go any place to eat... Probably a wait to be seated etc..

https://www.charlottefrontierdays.org/

I plan on going both Friday and Saturday. I been saving my pennies for a year to get the deals. I never leave the Expo empty handed.

I'm hoping to be there Friday morning, I always say I'm going to hang around and watch some of the events but then I rarely do... as usual I've got orders to make so not sure how long I'll hang around. Usually there until about noon.. Weather man calling for some scattered showers in the morning on Friday.. it might hinder my plans and I might have to take the trip on Saturday instead..

The timing of this event every year is perfect too. My wedding anniversary is on the 11th. and this year makes 26 years.. I always get her some nice lumber for her anniversary and at good prices.. she isn't a woodworker so she always gives it back to me. 😂   Next year I might splurge and get her some tools too since they always offering up some good tools deals too..

I plan on getting there by 8:30 both days. Friday getting there early you get first pick of the store boards can't beat 20% off. I plan on leaving around 4:00 both days.

I've been looking at the designs on your website.. Can't decide on puzzle or non puzzle, LOL.. Probably make a fairly sizable purchase once I decide, .. hopefully it'll still be this month so it'll benefit Harvey now.. 😂

If you go with puzzle version you can always convert to non-puzzle relatively easy.  I do it all the time especially now for my key/leash holders.

That's kinda my thinking... I've done some of the ones I have this way and they've worked out decent.. I usually resize them to be about 5" wide or less so they fit into my gift boxes and then I cut them out as ornaments instead of puzzles... however I also make clocks out of them.. as well as the occasional puzzle.. so getting the puzzle pattern with some slight editing can become several different things off one pattern.. I feel guilty doing that too though as it's money that he could get from the puzzle / non-puzzle patterns..Not from me though.. at least this year as my budget is kinda tighter than I like it to be.. Then again most my designs I get I modify someway anyway..

  • 3 weeks later...

I just placed a small order, was hoping to do more but this year with the kids college bills etc. funds just aren't plentiful.. Hoping that it was a busy month to help Harvey out with his bills.. Only a few days of Sept. left so those that haven't bought and want to help out Harvey.. there is still time left :)

Thanks Scott for giving us all the opportunity to help a fellow pattern designer and scroll sawer

I just saw your order come thru, thank you Kevin, very kind of you and very much appreciated.  Harvey is going to get one heck of a check this month thanks to you and so many folks ordering patterns.  My wife and I will be jacking up the overall amount and I've written Harvey a letter that will accompany his monthly report letting him know about the generosity from literally around the globe.

THANK YOU to all who ordered patterns in September.  A record breaking month of 380 patterns sold (avg is around 150).  Along with custom pattern orders, Harvey was going to receive $1430 and I chose to match the number and round it up a little in order to get it to $3,000.  If it weren't for Harvey, I wouldn't be where I am today, enjoying my hobby of making puzzles and selling thousands of them the past 3 years.  I hope that he accepts this small token of appreciation, by all of us, for him and his work.  I'm mailing his September sales report and check to him today.

Thank you again,

Iggy

Will Canadian money work?

I have customers literally world wide that purchase Harvey's patterns from my site.  I'm not sure of the details of how purchases in other currencies occur, but it must not be too complicated.  Check my site if you're interested.  Scroll down to the PATTERNS area, they are $3 each (US).  www.WoodcraftByScott.com
