OK... I went to DaFont  and found what I wanted

Dingbats - Nature - Printers Ornaments One by Dixie's Delights - hit "Download", it shows a zip file in lower left corner. After I hit it the window shows 2 files : Printorn  True Type font file and Printorn Text Document.

I double click on the font file and it brings up a box showing a bunch in horizontal lines, each line a little larger than the one above.

I hit "Install" and it shows it installing. Then I find it in my folders and double click on the zip file.

Next I hit "Extract All"  and get to a window showing all fonts across upper center...down the left are sizes: 12 18 24 36 48 60 72, each showing an example of a font getting a little larger.

That is as far as I can go! How do I get a font to the "paper" on Inkscape???

Driving me nuts!! It's a short trip LOL.

I'm sure it's very simple and easy...but I've never seen the program before and the videos don't make that move very clear...to me.

Thanks!

Had this problem with other fonts too but I have found that

download

extract all files to a separate folder.

exit

open folder

right click on the ttf

install for all users.

checked in inkscape and it is there.

Cool decorative font

I have found the secret is the install for all users.  Thanks to a previous post for the hint.

Just for the heck of it, I went to dafont but I can't find the font you found. Can you offer me some more info? I'd like to see if I can find/download/install it.

Don, when I right click on the file, I don't get the "install for all users" option. Just a plain install. Can you possibly explain what I might be doing wrong? I'm running win 10 and have it set up to share files and printers between all of our computers in our home.

Getting the hang of it! select font...select size...set as default...make a text box where you want it then use "abcdef…" to put design font on paper!

To be able to find what I want I made text boxes and just went through the alphabet, printed it, and wrote the corresponding letters below them.

Any of that make sense? Or is there an easier way to do it?

So far I'm having a blast!

The only thing I can think of is that you have to unzip and place in a folder.

Use File Explorer to open folder and then right click on the ttf.

If you just say extract and click on ttf you only get install.

I did some experimenting with Bird of Paradise on another laptop and this seemed to be the issue.

If tis doesn't work I have no idea.

Don, I extracted to a different folder and when I opened that folder there were 2 files. One was a .ttf and the other .txt. I right clicked on the .ttf and it opened a menu but there was no "install for all users" option. But thanks for trying to help. I'll figure it out.

Edit:  I went back and started all over and downloaded the font to my desktop. It was in a .zip file. I right clicked on it and told it to extract all and when asked where to put it, I didn't accept the default folder, I told it to just put the files on my desktop. Once done, I did the right click thing and DID find the "install for all users" option. So, all good. Thanks guys.
