Popular Post Newsawontheblock Posted September 12, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted September 12, 2019 I just finished this a few days ago. It was my first attempt with spiral blades, and I broke 18 blades grand total!! Towards the end though, I figured out what was happening, and didn’t break another blade! This was an extremely fun project, I am looking forward to do more with spirals in the future. MTCowpoke22, jbrowning, RabidAlien and 11 others 13 1 Quote
Foxfold Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 That is amazing. I've just started with spirals, but could never have attempted something like this on my first attempt. Brilliant work !!! Quote

Newsawontheblock Posted September 12, 2019 Author Report Posted September 12, 2019 (edited) Scruffydog, Two things seemed to help a lot. First I took apart my clamps, my bottom one seemed dry, so I oiled it. Also, since I was top feeding, I began by clamping the blade in the bottom clamp first, and then attaching it up top! This allowed me to pick a flat part to clamp in the bottom where I was always clamping and unclamping. Every time I fed the blade through, it would land at the same flat spot again, leading to much easier clamping, and less blade slippage and twisting. After these two things were changed, I only broke one blade! Edited September 12, 2019 by Newsawontheblock changed an i to an I Quote
Denny Knappen Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 That was an amazing challenge, especially for the first with spirals. Very well done. Newsawontheblock 1 Quote
Wilson142 Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 Do you flatten the blade ends or do you let the clamps find the flat spots? What works for me is to flatten the ends and when I tighten the clamps I proceed slowly enough that I can feel, without looking if I'm on a flat spot or not. Helps me avoid hockey sticking the blade. Newsawontheblock Posted September 13, 2019 Author Report Posted September 13, 2019 I did try flattening the ends on one blade, but I didn’t notice that it made a difference for me. I found it worked well to clamp the blade on a flat spot in the bottom clamp, then clamp the top clamp..... that way it would always line up on the flat spot in the bottom again. Quote
