avenuewood
Good evening, Can anyone explain why, after a few cuts, my blade looks like a hockey stick at the top (quick release) end? Thanks. OCtoolguy
flarud
That's how we would probably look if someone put us in a clamp and tightened it down! meflick, OzarkSawdust, munzieb and 2 others 1

fredfret
The set screw on one side may be out of place. OCtoolguy
avenuewood
Hi fredfret, I am using a Hegner quick release clamp. Grub screw one side and tightening screw the other side. Are you meaning the grub screw needs to be adjusted? There is not too much room in the slot which takes the blade. If the grub screw is too far in that will leave very little room for the blade. OCtoolguy
The "grub" screw should be just proud of the clamp wall so that the blade is not forced down into a hole. Also, if the end of your clamp screw has the pivoting end, make sure it is lubricated and is turning the way it is supposed to. That way, it will rotate and not grab your blade and create a hockey stick. Those are the two fixes that I have heard tossed around here on the Village. And clamp pressure doesn't have to be excessively tight. Just enough to keep the blade where you want it. Good luck.
heppnerguy
Also on some blade clamps, (if you look at them closely) you will see that the outer part (the parts facing away from the saw) are tapered outward. I the blade is extending past the locking mechanisms they will be forced to bend. One cure is to leave the blade in the bottom clamp and clip off the part that is bent and them re-clamp the blade and see if that fixes the problem. It has for me, every time, unless there is a problem with the 'grub' screw is not leaving a hole space inside the clamp. Sycamore67
I have a Hegner with the quick clamp and do not have the problem. Please post a picture of the blade. avenuewood
Octoolguy, Now I see it! Yes my grub screw was slightly recessed. Fixed now. picture taken in sunlight so there are two “blades” but this will give you the idea. Thanks for all the help. On to my next pattern. Ok, so you adjusted the grub screw so that it protrudes a tiny bit. Now, install a blade, top and bottom as you normally would, then place a small square next to the blade and see if it is now out of square. Probably so, you'll have to adjust the lower clamp so that it all lines up. And make sure your table is square to your blade. Once you have done all that, you are ready to make sawdust again.
