Action Tape

Take a look at: store.workshopsupply.com   They have an 8-1/2" X 20' two sided tape made for scrolling for $19.95 CDN. There is a great review of the product there. Lots of other good stuff there too. I'm thinking about ordering some and eliminate some of the messy spray adhesive.

I am going to reply to my own post.  Google did not find anything. I tried twice over a two day period.   I just tried Bing as a search and it found this tape right away.  ScrollerOnline sells this. It does not say Action Tape in the description, but it looks like the same thing.  I am going to order there and hope for the best.  I did find that the website for Action Tape is "under construction" so I am not sure they are still in business.

It is also sold on Amazon. Winfield is listed as the Vendor. This listing is titled "20' Roll - 8-1/2" Stick N' Release Scroll Saw Tape".  Shipping is a little less on Amazon, then buying direct on the ScrollerOnline/Winfield website.

Rockytime, that is the same tape at workshopsupply.com.

I really like this tape for holding the pattern. It is secure and it releases cleanly and easily.  It is very easy and clean to use.  To me, the only downside it the initial cost of $20.00 for the roll.

If I'm doing some simple patterns, I'll spray 3m contact medium on the paper but if I'm doing complicated or intricate designs, I'll definitely use the tape from scrolleronline.com. It's not cheap $1.00 a foot (scroller does run some promotional discounts) but I am careful to use only an the exact pattern area and will piece together cut offs to save. Removal is easy. I always pre sand the wood before applying the tape and if it binds a little, I'll use some "Goof Off" and an acid brush to lift it off. It's my "go to" product.

I saw a video the other day where a guy printed the pattern on a page and pealed off the backing and stuck it to the wood. Like an oversized shipping label.

Anyone use something like that? How well does it work vs blue painters tape & spray glue?

I use clear shelf liner instead of painters tape.. Walmart has it for around $6 a roll.. I print my patterns on full sheet shipping labels and stick that to the shelf liner.. Works real well for me.. no messy spray glues unless I'm doing a project that requires more than one sheet of paper..

Not sure why this says around $15 because I was just at my local Walmart and it was $5.98 I think..

Since I use shipping labels for printing out the labels for mailing my products.. I buy these in large quantity so they're quite a lot cheaper than going to your local office store and buying 10-20 sheets.. I buy this about once a year..

Thanks Kevin! That might save time and mess.

I took a few photos to show the pattern/tape removal for the 8 1/2" tape ScrollerOnline sells. This is one of Steve Good's personalized Ornaments. This is straight off the saw. There is no cleanup after removal other than normal light sanding to clean up fibers from sawing.

I use it all the time Matt.  I came across it a few years ago and decided to send for some, it's all I use now.  Bit more expensive for me with it having to come to Australia but I don't mind.

I have used this tape over the past year and it works really well if the wood surface is well prepared. it adheres very well if the wood is sanded and any dust is removed. I use a tach cloth to remove dust. This product saves a lot of time removing tape and spray adhesive, you know, the not so fun part of scrolling. Removing the spray adhesive and paper on thin overlays can damage them as well.

Just thought I'd toss this out for general consumption. I gave up using google a year or more ago. I find many things on Bing that don't come up on google. I read somewhere that others have had the same experience so I switched and so far, I'm happy.

Yes, I do. It works very well for me. Easy to take off.  I also just print on normal paper, spray with glue and fix straight to my wood. For me gluing straight to the wood is easiest as a dab of mineral spirits lifts the whole thing off almost instantly.
