Foxfold
Well I have cut my 'fussy' friends ruddy Koala, however the top layer of plywood seems to be a little 'yucky'. Not sure if it's the wood or perhaps I sanded it a tad too much. What would you suggest to make it look better ? I was thinking about a stain but I've heard that plywood doesn't take stains very well. John B, Woodrush, crupiea and 3 others
John B
That's a hard one, especially if the lower ply is staring to show through.. Can you cut it down a little and put a frame around it? If not I'd try a light stain, like oak, but sand it nicely (and Carefully ) down to 360g by hand beforehand,. You did an excellent of cutting him, your mate should be pretty chuffed. Scrappile
I have had good results staining plywood with a gel stain, from Old Masters or General Finishes. There is also a pre-stain or wood conditioner that can be applied first. I think Minwax sells one. It is suppose to help prevent blotches.... I have not tried it. jollyred
Fab4
Hi Brenda: Everyone does it different I would paint the whole thing white or whatever color you see fit then sand away some of the paint then stain it Antique like finish - just a crazy thought Fab4 danny and Foxfold

I may just cut it again with a better piece of ply, it wasn't a difficult pattern. xx John B, amazingkevin and Fab4
daveww1
very nice job of cutting, I hope the next one doesn't give you any trouble. Foxfold
amazingkevin
Looks good from here, although cutting another one like you said is a good alternative. Make lemonade from lemons! I've had good luck turning things around with distractions, colors, paint, add on's. Foxfold

wombatie
I hope you 'friend' likes him because I think he's cute. You did a terrific job. Sorry can't help you with you problem. Marg
crupiea
I think it looks great, just leave it alone. if you dont like something about the finish, just make a frame for it. It acts as a sort of optical illusion in that it gives the eye more to focus on thus evening everything out. srs
Rockytime
I don't see a problem either. If she wants wood she has wood. I think it looks great. I'd do nothing except frame it.
