Definitely wear dust protection Tammi. There are several model respirators out there. Several on Amazon website. Steve Good has a couple reviews of some on his website. You will probably get several different ideas from readers. I have one of the models Steve Good recommended. Can't think of the model right now Sorry. It works great but for some reason it obstructs my view when scrolling. I just use it when I am sanding.. Right now I wear a 3M brand dust mask and have three box fans with good filters attached to them as I don't have a dust collector.   They work pretty well and you can blow out the filters. Better than nothing. I also have a Wen dust collector hanging from the ceiling to clean the shop of very fine dust. I run it while I am working then set it for two hour run time when I leave the shop.

I have a dust collection system and an air filtrator running and I still use a dust mask. I tried the different respirators out there and my weird shaped face doesn't fit any of them. I was almost tempted to go buy an old M17 CBR mask from the army/navy store.

I finally settled on using the earloop medical paper masks that I get from Amazon. They don't seal effectively so I cover that with a Dust-be-Gone mask. That combination works very well. I have COPD, so dust maintenance is an important factor for me. I have some friends who use the paper masks only and they work well for them.

You should use some kind of mask. With all my dust collection and air filtration, I still get flying dust. Specially if you get into intarsia. Find what works for you and use it.

I use a Elipse P100 half mask... I used to use a Totobobo mask that I really liked.. but the straps would rot away quite fast.. now I see they only use the ear straps.. The filters don't last too long either but it is a very light and comfortable mask.. that many times I'd forget I even had it on, LOL

absolutely,  I have a Scrolnado attached and still wear a mask..  Just one look at the fine dust is n the mask is enough to make me a believer.  Lungs are sensitive to the particles in the air and they are more expensive than a dust mask or respirator.  Wear something!!!!!

Hi Keven,  that is what my son and husband use.  I have used my sons and it is comfy.  I washed the filters and that worked .

Likewise. I'll have expired long before the sawdust kills me.

I would too cause I get hot with it on but I have asthma.  We have an air filter system that helps a ton.  A vacuum system. Last night hubby hooked up a fan to help cool me and that made a big difference.  The work shop and my sewing room are my happy places. 😁

I have a mask (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07988FX9D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that I wear while sanding or using the jigsaw/skill saw, as they kick up tons of dust.  Otherwise, I have a large floor fan from Lowes with some pretty hefty cfm airflow, and a desk fan sitting on top of a Kreg jig box that blows across my project to keep most of the dust down.  I still have to clean sawdust off my glasses and magnifying lamp occasionally, but no more than walking around central Texass on a breezy day and all the dust/pollen in the general air.

I do wear the mask while mowing the yard, though, we have three Great Danes and there are, inevitably, "landmines" that get missed in the back yard that turn into little poopclouds when the mower finds them.  I don't mind sawdust, but even I have a line that I won't cross.  LOL  NOBODY wants to breathe in poopclouds.

I have COPD, poisoned with heavy metals and the nerves for one lung shut down from military service. Its not only the dust you can see, Its the stuff that is microns and the more your around it, the more your going to breath and concentrate it. You can find 3M masks that have ear loops and bands around the head. After losing a lung 'doesn't function' I've used all types all the time. Some of the mask with the ear loops can start rubbing  your ears raw. I would definitely recommend a mask with a 'ventilator'. Little plastic piece on the front, will open every time you breath out. This is going to keep you from getting hot ans sweaty in the mask. Ventilate the shop, use vac suction around machines. Solvents will mess with your lungs. Saw dust particles are tricky buggers. One day your absolutely fine. The next your allergic and gasping for breath. If your in the shop day after day, invest in a mask with replaceable filters for the type conditions your working.

I lost my lung through breathing stuff in the military and didn't know it. Wood shops have known irritants and poisonous solvents. At least use vacs, blowers, fans and save your lungs. Its no fun walking up a set of stairs and doubling over for air, as if you have run a mile. RJF
