Popular Post Old Joe Posted October 23, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) I haven’t posted in a while, though I still try to scroll something every day. The kittens pattern was from Mike Williams and if I remember correctly the clown/hobo was an Alex Fox pattern that I have had around for some time. Both are cut from 1/4” Baltic Birch and mounted on pine 1x12’s cut to size. I painted the backer red on the hobo and stained the cat’s backer in True Black. The kittens were harder than they need to be because I made it considerably smaller than it was recommended. Hope you all like them. BTW, I stack cut both portraits and ended up with two of each one. Wilson142 Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 Very nice. I understand the cat piece, I tend to cut most things 30% to 50% smaller than intended because I'm using up a lot of wood I originally bought for intarsia but got sidetracked by fretwork. Quote
heppnerguy Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 very well cut on both projects. The Mike Williams patterns are always outstanding when they are cut as his pattern work always produces a wonderful end piece. Thank you for taking the time to post them Dick heppnerguy Quote
rdatelle Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 Great job cutting those out Joe. I love the cat one. Looks like a lot of blade changes there. Quote

Thanks for the compliment. I did go through more blades on this than I have on any other portrait type project. The blades had to be ultra sharp to avoid blowout, plus I was stack cutting two of them. I used mostly Pegas MG #3’s, a couple of #1’s, and also used a couple each of Pegas Spiral #2’s and 3’s.Spirals are fast, but I am not crazy about working with them for everything. I’m not in a hurry and I have a hard time with them. I think that I now use Pegas #3 MGs for well over 90% of what I do. amazingkevin 1 Quote

amazingkevin Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 The things you learn doing a project as detailed as this!!! Nice to know about which blades are very sharp.i can't imagine stack cutting this with so many hold your breath cuts. You aced it all the way!!! Quote

Old Joe Posted October 26, 2019 Author Report Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) Thank you, everyone. Many of you are always so encouraging, and I really appreciate it. Though making these projects from other people’s patterns is often challenging, I am trying hard to teach myself to use the Gimp program to start doing more original designs. Honestly, I think that is harder than cutting Alex Fox, or Mike Williams type patterns. My goal is to become more proficient at it this winter. Edited October 26, 2019 by Old Joe OzarkSawdust 1 Quote

I get where you're coming from, I'm trying to get Inkscape down pat. I looked at GIMP and really like the wide range of stuff that can be done...but haven't tried it yet. I just did my first original pattern on Inkscape, a wedding or anniversary sign. I think it took look longer to do the pattern than it did to cut it.... Old Joe 1 Quote
