Popular Post OzarkSawdust
Took a scrap piece of Cedar and made an initial necklace last night. Steve Good has this in all initials as well as a few more necklaces. I put polyurethane on it to dry overnight. Not really happy with the finish. Ideas? Poly, spray lacquer, leave bare, or ??? But it's a good way to use scrap...easy and quick too! rjR
Nicely done. I use paste wax and nothing else on some things like that. About 3 coats hand rubbed will make it FANTASTIC! OzarkSawdust
Wilson142
Now that you have some poly on, I'd add a coat or 2 more. It looks to me as if it has absorbed much of the finish. OzarkSawdust and Be_O_Be 1
Jim McDonald
That cedar is like Aspen. It is going to suck up finish until finally there will be a coat that looks like a mirror. Couple of more coats should do it. I think a 50/50 cut of shellac to alcohol might have been a good sealer. Ron Johnson
Nicely done Gary. As Ralph indicted, paste wax, simple, quick and elegant, especially if exotic woods are used. Denny Knappen
I agree with the others. I use Shellac diluted 50% with alcohol and the several coats of spray Polyurethane. For that one maybe clear gloss. Lucky2 and OzarkSawdust 1
OzarkSawdust
You guys that use the Shellac & alcohol mixed 50/50...do you mix it each time? Can you make a batch to keep on hand? If so how long is it good for and how should you store it...glass or plastic bottle? Same questions for the BLO and mineral oil crowd. Never used either...but they sound interesting. As it runs low, I just add more. danny and OzarkSawdust 1
