As I looked up info on the web about alcohol dye, I found this interesting
video about making DIY Alcohol Dye from fabric dye like RITS.

TransTint wood dye works really for staining wood without raising the grain, Not cheap , but it works great; Rockler has it, as well as other woodworking suppliers.
