rash_powder
For those of you who use them, how do you get them to work???!!!! I have tried and am failing. By the time I get all my pattern covered the glue has turned clear and isn't terrible sticky anymore. I switched from spray adhesive because I do most of my work inside, and the spray glue doesn't work outside in the cold. Tips or tricks??? dgman
I have never had any luck with glue sticks. Maybe you should try printing your patterns on full page labels. OCtoolguy and amazingkevin 1
Rockytime
I purchased several glue sticks and none of them worked for me. I wanted to use them for real small patterns but it was no go. Do you have a garage that you could use spray adhesive in? I use it in my garage and even in the coldest weather the garage is warmer. GrampaJim
I use these which work for me. You can get them anywhere. https://www.amazon.com/Elmers-Clear-Glue-Stick-E4061/dp/B073K2NGY2/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=Glue+Sticks&qid=1573961851&sr=8-12 All my intarsia pattern parts go on with there. With family members with asthma, spray glue is out of the question in my basement shop. Full sheet labels will work too. amazingkevin and OCtoolguy 1
Sycamore67
I have tried A lot of different adhesives and use 3M77 spray adhesive. Glue sticks never worked for me and took to much time. Oscar Myer
NC Scroller
Another 3M77 addict. I have tries many way and it is cheapest and best. I have use a Xyron Machine for intarsia. Great for that but would be expensive to do all your work with one.https://www.amazon.com/Xyron-Creative-Invitations-Handmade-624632/dp/B00X3EZ5VO/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=xyron&qid=1573993316&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMEZDRTJNUlFBOUlGJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjIwNTM2Mzg1QjhaWUoyN0hTSiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTc3Njg1MzVMSTlXU1BJVEs2OSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=. amazingkevin
Ctutor
If you have a scrapbooker in your house try Xylon. You run your pattern through the unit and it applies a thin coat of sticky stuff to the back which you can reposition if you get the right stuff. A roll costs about $19 for 50 '. works great and no mess. amazingkevin
Denny Knappen
I use contact paper. Print right on the paper. amazingkevin
spirithorse
Hello, Other than using the adhesive labels, I would still use the 3M77 spray adhesive. The only trick needed is to keep your glue can inside at room temperature and you can take the pattern out-side to spray it. The glue will still remain tacky for a few minutes so you have time to take the sprayed pattern back indoors and attach it to the wood. Double sided tape would also work but, is probably even more expensive than the adhesive labels. God Bless! MrsN
I use glue sticks and love them. I got sick of dealing with going outside to put patterns on and the smell of spray glue bothers me. One thing us that they can dry out if they are old, even if you haven't used them. I keep mine in a plastic bag. I prefer to use the Elmer's purple ones. I typically put the glue on top of a layer of painter's tape, and go over the area a bunch so that there is a nice layer of glue. When doing a full sheet I usually glue half, get it stuck, then do the other half. amazingkevin and GrampaJim
Oscar Myer
I have converted my garage into my workshop. Because it is small just about everything in there is on wheels, including my bench. When I'm ready to glue my patterns I roll the bench to the opened door... not outsid3, just close to the door.. Almost no fumes from the 3M77 come into the shop. Typically I try to glue up 2 or 3 projects at a time. Once done, I roll the bench back to it's spot and start cutting away. /Oscar

Either you are single or have an understanding spouse. My wife insists on her car being in the garage. I'm glad for you!

Actually, I kind of made it clear to her that I wanted the garage when we bought the house. I didn't put my foot down or anything like that for to do so would be pointless. But it didn't come without a price. Here in Quebec, Canada, we tend to get a lot of snow in the winter. It is my duty to clean the snow off her car and to make sure it's warm by the time she gets in it. As mentioned, my shop is small - 12 x 25 - so there is a system in place for using all my tools. Everything is on wheels. I often wish that it was bigger but I guess almost all woodworkers wish the same. I know that a bigger shop isn't going to happen so I make do and am happy with what I have. It is heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer. Life is good when I'm in the shop. /Oscar
Rockytime
Glad to hear the garage deal worked out. Cars do not belong in a garage anyway. They belong in a car shed. :>)
