jbrowning
The bad thing about having a busy craft show. Time to get stocked up for the next craft show coming up the first weekend of December. I have 40 puzzles to get cut and a few videos to get ready also. I hope I don't give out. kmmcrafts
It is going to be busy, but make time to rest, don't want to fall asleep at the shows . I hope it's as busy for everyone else as it's been for me.. I've already sold out of a lot of my inventory that I built up over the summer.. but custom orders keep coming in and have hardly any time to "try" to restock some things.. It's not even my busiest time yet.. OzarkSawdust, OCtoolguy and jbrowning 2
Devin Wilson
Oh how I know that feeling. Between keeping stock for my weekly beach show and a few requests/orders we are staying busy. Thank goodness the wife cuts just as much as me if not more so it goes faster with 2. We've got 9 more shows to go before Christmas. I also sent in application for a 4 day show/festival in middle of January which has attendance of 60-80k over the 4 days so no slowing down here until February possibly. LOL I hear your Iggy. My first show everyone said my prices were too high. Then my next show at a different place, same pieces and prices and I couldn't keep the puzzles on the tables. And now people are asking me about dog puzzles. So I've picked up two more 4'x12" poplar board and filled them up with assorted dog puzzles. And now I have less that two weeks to get these all done. It sucks being kind of successful. OzarkSawdust
NC Scroller
I used to do 2 shows in November. Both big shows with GREAT sales. I backed off to only one this year. This is a hobby for me. Sure it is nice to have a few extra $$$ to buy more wood, tools and other such toys but stressing over orders and restocking quickly took the fun out of it. kmmcrafts
Maybe I'm the oddball but I like being busy.. I like making that special custom ordered ornament or clock at the last minute to fulfill someones last minute gift.. Yes it's busy.. but that is what keeps me going.. Some people stress about it.. then again.. I don't take on more work than I can handle either.. I stop offering custom made items by Dec. 1st.. many times before that.. just depends upon how busy I actually am.. It's only crazy busy for about 3-4 months of the year for me.. Maybe the difference is I do it all at home.. no crazy packing / setup / take down / unpacking etc for me.. I just pack up orders and hand them to the mailman every day.. For me.. I love the process of running business.. It's not about the money .. or scroll sawing for the money.. the money is the side effect of the process as a whole.. The fine line between "being busy" and "I don't have time for all of this!!!" LOL... Fortunately I'm off from the day job this week and can try to get ahead of things... which translates trying to guess what people are going to want aside from the usual popular items. jbrowning, kmmcrafts and OzarkSawdust
kmmcrafts
I come to realize quite some time ago that I cannot possibly do all of the request I get.. I just make stuff.. try to keep inventory up on it while also trying to fulfill custom request.. As I said.. I pretty much stop doing custom request at least by December.. I love the custom request because many of my best selling items was ideas from customers, LOL I've inventoried about 25 each of every ornament I offer.. plus offering many new ones as of late. Tried to inventory 2-4 each of clocks. over the summer months.. I'll say.. this year is the fist year I think.. that I've already sold out of many ornaments.. and I've worked most of today making another 25 each of the sold out ones.. My busiest time isn't until after Thanksgiving.. and especially the 1st two weeks of December.. So anyway.. I just don't stress about it and do what I can.. turn away a lot of work every year in December.. Tell them to order early next year.. I now have people ordering Christmas stuff in Sept.. Woodmaster1
It sounds like it is going to an awesome year for those of you who do craft shows. I don't even do craft shows but I am busy doing cheese cutters and matching cutting boards and aggravation games for friends and family. I don't want this to be a job fun of working in shop messing around is my goal. I guess I started something that snowballed on me by making the cheese cutters and matching cutting boards for wedding gifts.
