EX 16 Problem?

My husband, Terry's got an EX 16 and it's started getting a knocking noise.  We have looked at everything we can think of any suggestions?

Check the snap loc air hose, I had a knocking and the  air hose was being hit by the saw arm when it was in motion

Check the adjustment on the upper arm, that the distance between the back and the front is the same.

Whatever you find, please let us all know. I do recall a similar problem with the Dewalt 788's but it was caused by the internal tension rod hitting the underside of the cover plate. I'm not sure how the mechanism works on the EX's. The saws are very similar but the tension mechanism is different on the later models. It could also be the main drive rod coming loose where it connects to the crankshaft. I'm not sure what you call it. When I had my Dewalt, I found that the main drive link was coming loose. Once I tightened it and put some blue Loc-Tite on it, the noise never came back.

I had the Motor Cam break into 2 that caused a bad knocking noise.  You would know if that's the problem though because the blade would not move up and down.

Well we had a look at the saw and it wasn't the air hose.  But it was  (excuse me for not knowing the technical term) the silver metal bit that connects to the arm, the blade goes in the end.  Terry pushed it to see if it was loose and when he started the saw the knocking had stopped.  Not sure if the problem is fixed permanently but it is for now.  Thanks for trying to help.

Marg, do the blade chucks, clamps move up and down, eg closer together and wider apart, or another way, do you have to hold them closed when putting in a blade.
If this is the case, in the top arm is a mechanism that moves the top blade chuck up and down, on my Ex21 this is joined in the middle for some amazing reason. Quite a while ago, the nut that joins these came loose and I had a knocking noise. The nut that uses the saw is always loose

Is that anywhere near the Galvin rod? I know on a 50 Ford, they have a tendency to leak oil at times.

No John the blades go in and out the way they should.
