Tilt Saw or Not

  I finally got my stand put together on my new saw  and it’s on the mobile base I made with shelfs. My old saw sat level but I see and hear a lot of individuals that tilt there saw down in front with the back elevated. Before I mount it to the top, I was just wondering how many folks have there saw tilted in the front and if it’s  that much better than just level. And what are the benefits of having it tilted?

I have a Hegner and have tilted it by raising the back leg about an inch. I find it easier for me.  There is no right or wrong way but find a position that you like by trying a coup!e different ones.

I tilt my saw because it is easier on my neck. I have a wood block that is 2" x 3" and long enough to go under my back legs. I turn it one way or the other depending on if I'm standing or sitting. It's all about your own comfort.

I think this is something you need to do to see if it works for You.. I say this because I've seen many of these type topics over the years and it's more of a personal preference thing.. I see just about as many people like it tilted as there are that do not like it tilted...  At this time.. all my saws are pretty much flat... mainly because I haven't taken the time to get a "Good" tilt system for my stands.. Hawk sells a tilt leg adapter or " leg extensions" but the price they ask for a pair.. multiplied by 3 because I have three of their saws.. I think I can mount to 2 x 4 that'll do the same thing.. My DeWalt is tilted as far as it'll tilt on the factory stand.. and I love it like that.. The excalibur I slid a 2 x 4 under the back legs but it vibrates off the edge of the board and then creates a problem.. So after the holidays.. That it one project I intend to do.. I do like the saws tilted..

I have my EX21 with back legs setting on a 2x4. No vibration in my saw stays put. Makes it easier for me to see the cutting.

my saw is on a 21/2 " tilt,dI have had it like this for about 10 years and it is easier on the back, and it is easier to make sharjp turns this way. It is up to the saw operator adnd either way is fine ifd it suits you. try it

I don't have a 'stand' for my saw, it's bolted to my workbench but I do have a piece of  2x 4  under the back edge. It's personal preference as to which way it's done.  I sit at my saw and like the 'tilt'

I'll be a fence sitter. I have my Dewalt sitting on a piece of 4"x2" so the rear is raised 2". The Ex21 is flat. I stand to cut and don't really notice any difference.

Add one more to the tilt group, my ex21 sits on a 2x4 and I have no issue with it vibrating off the stick.  I did take the rubber feet off the metal legs first though.

My first scroll saw sat level, on a home made stand.  I replaced it with a DeWalt, which I used tilted for many years.  When I got my EX, I first made it level to see if, after all these years, it really made any difference.  I ended up putting it back on a tilt.  I think it's intended to be more ergonomic, but whether or not there is any tangible benefit, only you can determine.

I agree, no right or wrong.  The best way to get your answer is to try it both ways.  I have and for me I did not see any real benefit to tilting.  I have often thought about, but haven't done it yet, is make my saws adjustable so I can change them easily.  That way after a period of scrolling I could change the one I am using and maybe it would help to change positions once in a while.  Then again, maybe not.  I just find that as I get more advanced in age,,,, I can scroll for shorter period before I have to take a break...

 Thanks for all your comments and who does what. As of now its 5 no tilt compared to 8 tilt....  Like stated I will probably try both ways ... It seems like a lot you with the tilted saws tended to sit down and no tilt people tend to stand up? I myself stand and have the saw fairly high in the air with a table height at about 44'' and I am 5'x8'' just for reference.  Thanks for the insight.

I've had saws both ways, but my DeWalt is at full tilt with the factory adjustment, like Kevin. 

I helps on most of my work, but that 1% where I'm fighting gravity is tough.

I sit and no tilt. I only stand to scroll if the piece is too large to spin and my body gets in the way. All these people that tilt, do you tilt that smart phone that everyone is looking down at these days.?? I predict that that will become an injury that lawyers will be claiming soon. We will see commercials for it to join a class action suit against phone makers.
