Fish
My brother came accross this from a gov. Auction. I can tell it’s older but can anyone tell me more about it? How old, are pieces missing, is it in decent shape and how much do you think it’s worth and sell for? Thanks. OCtoolguy
dgman
Hey Dan, that is one of the original Excalibur saws made by Summerville Designs in Canada. It was a great saw in its time, but parts are no longer available.you would have to see it in person to see how it works. It will be over twenty years old! kmmcrafts
Hard to tell in the picture but I don't see a blade tensioner on it? Is it missing blade clamps or something or just the angle of the photo.. Unless I was about to get it for like $50 or less.. I think I'd pass unless it proves to be all there and in working order... there is too many deals on scroll saws in my area to pay very much for a real old saw like that one.. Fish
Thanks. My brother called them over at Seyco and he told him there’s no longer any parts so he’s gonna keep looking for a different saw. Thanks for helping. Bill WIlson
Wow, is that thing belt driven, from that motor hanging off the back? That must be a golden oldie! OCtoolguy

Bill, look closer. That motor is mounted to the compressor behind the saw. OCtoolguy, NC Scroller, tomsteve and 1 other 3

Dan, I blew up the pic and it is that huge motor that's driving that saw. If you look close you can see that it is sitting right behind the saw and the compressor is sitting further back. You can just see the belt/pulley on the saw. But it is very deceiving. tomsteve

bandaideman
The thread here was interesting. But the best part to find out I am not the only one contradicted by a wife. Dan thanks I now have a warm feeling in my heart that I am not the only one. wombatie and OCtoolguy

That's what I first thought. I looked at that picture several times and it seems for all the world like the motor is sitting on a bracket, mounted to the back of the saw. I looked up a PDF of the manual and discovered that it was a belt driven saw, with the drive pulley on the back, left hand side of the saw, which is consistent with the picture. Just looked like an awful big motor for that saw. OCtoolguy
dgman
Well, considering the motor is the same color as the compressor, and the compressor pulley is lined up with the motor, it’s still a tough call. Regardless, I still would pass on it. Edited January 1, 2020 by dgman OCtoolguy
JTTHECLOCKMAN
This is fun so I will join in. I do not know anything about this saw but is that a start /stop button under the saw?? If that would be the case that is a heavy duty type used with a motor that size.. I would think the saw had a switch on the saw somewhere. Just to ad a little more, the wire from the motor is going under the table and you can see it hanging down. That would go to that stop /start switch. Looking further, there does not appear to be a thumb screw on the upper clamp, but the arms look like EX and DeWalt arms so the clamps could be replaced. Yeah, it's the same reason my wife gets on me about stuff. She always says, "let it go" don't be a "know-it-all" but I just can't. Sorry Dan, didn't mean to get in your stuff. My New Year's resolution will be not to do this anymore. Whatever anybody says will stand. I'll have a tough time but oh well.................... dgman
