mikesscrollsaw Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Not finished, still needs to be sanded and the top ring glued on (it's just laying there) but i liked it so much i wanted to share. I plan on finishing it with a salad bowl oil. the top ring is 11.5 inches across. This is going to be the gift I give to my local cabinet shop for allowing me to come in and get free wood all the time. I'm going to fill it with fruit and deliver it hopefully next week to say thank you. I visited them last week and asked what they did with scrap hard wood, they throw it all away, he said i could take it all if I wanted. so once a week I'm going over there and digging through thier trash cans. this is made out of all the wood scraps they have given me. many different types of wood, 4 I think. the top ring is 8 pieces of red oad edge glued together and then planed down to 1/2 inch thick. this is a modified Steve Good pattern, I made it once and it was too easily tipped over, so i made the base as wide as the top for more staiblity. Trivet, 3/4 inch thick not sure what wood it is, it was in the pile of scraps I picked up from the cabinet makers. another trivet (about 8 inches long) Quote
Oges Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Great work on all of those Mike. The fruit bowl is on my cutting list to do one day. Quote
mikesscrollsaw Posted February 17, 2011 Author Report Posted February 17, 2011 I resized the pattern to make it bigger. It's fairly easy to cut hard part was the assembly. I cut a couple notches slightly too big and since the parts are curved you can't clamp it I had to hold them Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Great job on all of them. Thanks for showing us your work. DW Quote
