Popular Post kmmcrafts
I get a lot of messages regarding how I get my pictures so crisp and white. I purchased a photo shooting booth for my pictures and all of my photos on my website are taken in this very expensive booth. The price of the booth was free other than the gas to take the trip to Michaels to get the box and a purchase of the white poster board backdrop. This is some high tech stuff here and should be considered confidential and only sharing for my friends here on the village. So basically it’s a cardboard box I picked up from Michaels for free about 10 years ago. Some white tissue paper and a poster board for the back drop. The lights are from a previous booth my wife purchase for me on amazon many years ago. That booth was made of cloth and had several back drops. Issue with it was the dust settled on it over the years and there was no easy way to wash it. So getting the free box, cut out the windows in the sides and taping the tissue paper to the box to defuse the light. After the photo shoot I do edit the backgrounds with the free pattern programs. Both Inkscape and gimp work for this. This booth it too small for some projects so I’ve been saving up for another bigger box. Hope to have the money to replace this one soon as this is showing it’s age and the sides are caving outward because I sometimes put a few ornament on the top of the box while doing the photo shoot and it’s not able to handle the weight any longer , and the tissue paper is ripping out because of the fatigue Yeah I Know... You Should See Some Of My Other High Tech Stuff... Denny Knappen
Hi Kevin. Having worked in Walmart meat department for 5 years, they have large boxes. The ground beef comes prepackaged in boxes that are just right for this purpose. Check out Walmart meat dept. I also use them as a spray booth. kmmcrafts

Scrappile
I picked up a box, maybe two years ago from Home Depot just for this purpose. Asked my wife if she had an old white sheet I could have... yes, she says. I'm still waiting...... what do you recommend for lights? I have a small photo setup from back in my pen making days. Doing nice photos of ones work, to me, is just another level of fun to the hobby. I collected quite a few props to go with the pens and it was, well just another fun dimension to the hobby. And with the digital cameras it is even greater. I'd like to get a set up again. Edited January 16, 2020 by Scrappile new2woodwrk

And with the digital cameras it is even greater. I'd like to get a set up again. The lights I got with my " purchased" booth was CFL and they was the big ones.. I think maybe 100 watt.. and I think the color temp was 5000.. One of the bulbs burned out and I replaced it with a LED of around 5000 color temp.. which is just a standard size bulb.. I think a 4000 - 5000 color like is probably best.. The 6000 watt seem to give off a blue tint to the lighting and also makes the photos odd looking.. I like the LED because it's instantly on. The CFL's in the colder weather especially.. I'd have to wait several minutes to get the light at it's full brightness... Many times I just need a quick shot to show a customer.. and I hate taking photos to send out to customers that has a bunch of background stuff.. like if I was taking a picture in my house or something.. That just distracts a photo in my opinion.. Scrappile
jerry1939
Have you considered setting up a "Go Fund Me Page" on this site? Perhaps if everyone chipped in some pocket change, you could buy a new box. (Nice idea btw) jerry kmmcrafts and OzarkSawdust
teachnlearn
My son and wife collect things and we sold a bit on eBay. Didn't have to room so I bought a photo cube. Got a kit with the cube, lights and bag. Living in apartments and Navy 'house' we never had room so I stayed portable. Its in storage and will see light soon and probably more use when we sort our stuff. Cubes/ tents are popup and spring open. fold to a small circle. Pulled a link with a selection. I got one that even had a group of photo color backdrops. Its been so long, I don't know if its made our still posted. kmmcrafts
This is the one I have... but mine came with lights, book on photography and several backdrops..along with a suit case.. large nice suit case.. almost better than the one we use for traveling LOL.. But it's quite old and I always just left it popped up and ready.. but doing so over the years had collected quite a lot of dust that I couldn't get cleaned off it very well even after washing it in the washing machine.. This cardboard box set up actually works a lot better than that thing did anyway.. Maybe the cloth was too dense as the lighting was never all that great.. but seems great with the box and tissue paper..The poster board I bought was a nicer plastic / vinyl and wipes of and washes well... I just need to make it about the size of my old setup. 2x2 foot cube.. https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Shooting-Diffusion-Backdrops-Photography/dp/B00GKGGICC/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=photo+box&qid=1579222075&sr=8-

BadBob
This is what I use. It's cheap and folds down into a small package. I wish I had bought a larger one but this works great for 95% of what I do.

Homemade boxes for photo shoots work fine, portability was on the top of my list. Another thing the cube does, is the material is light a studio light, making the lighting less harsh. Studio lights use this along with different reflectors for proper illumination. The ebay, sales sites don't necessarily need professional shots, but a little upgrade of equipment with the right back drops can be a difference between a ceiling light and a blanket on the floor and a sharp up close crisp image. One 'trick' I learned and use is to make or buy playdough in a assortment of colors. I use it to prop, hold or even as a temp glue putty to hold a set of figures in a pose. Still have the camera a lens, just waiting for a come back. RJF
