The vac sits in a corner above the Dust Deputy on a home brew stand. It's only about 6-7 feet from me when I'm sitting at my saw. The sound meter registered between 65 & 68 db. I don't wear muffs but I do have hearing aids. I'm not bothered by the sound.
kmmcrafts
One thing I’ve thought a lot about between the seyco vac system and the fein / festool is, the seyco is mounted right on the saw stand which is small and out of the way BUT it also puts it right near the saw where you get to hear it up close and personal, The fein / Festool can be several foot away from you. Guess it’s a pros and cons and decide what is more important space or sound lol. OCtoolguy

There are some not so great reviews on the newer ones from owners of the older model that needed to replace the old one for one reason or another.. It's too bad a company compromises quality for price competition.. when you add the necessities for a "Good" dust filtration the price of the fein is right in line with the Festool.. Many complaints on the new ones about the canister fitment being pretty sloppy and not sealing up will etc.. I've been keeping my eye out for one like yours..and have found some at $350 ish which is steep in my opinion for a old vac that who knows how long parts would be available... Maybe I'm just a cheap skate.. but I'd rather spend the $500 for the festool or buy this little system from Seyco.. then to spend 250+ for one of these older ones that who knows how much use and abuse it's had.. You got a steel on yours!! OCtoolguy
Matt B
I purchased a new Fein a few months ago. It is powerful. However, their dB specs are false. It is just as loud as my older Ridgid. I measured the dB using an iPhone app and although I don’t remember the exact level it was in the 80s at about 10 feet away. I would not purchase it again as it is too loud to use for scrolling without hearing protection. OCtoolguy
Rolf
My festool midi is rated at 62 dba at the low setting. "normal" conversation 60 to 65 db. I can do so sound level measurements at different distances when I get a chance. OCtoolguy

That was another thing I read in the reveiws of the newer Fein... and exactly why I have not bought one of those... They are cheaper than a Festool and an older model one ( at a good price ) I would look at.. but the new ones... NOPE.. OCtoolguy

You got a steel on yours!! I totally agree Kevin. I was lucky to find the one I have on C/L for $175. I had to drive up to L.A. to get it. I tried to dicker with the guy because that's just my nature but he knew what he had and wouldn't budge. Anyway, I'm very happy with it. It came with a 16 foot very pliable hose so I use it to clean up around my shop as well as outside. I did buy a brand new Ridgid 14 gallon in the box with the accessory package for $75 from a guy who swore it wasn't stolen. I built the roll-around stand that has the Dustopper atop it and now it is for when I set up my saw/sander/??? outside on my driveway. I'm pretty well fixed up for vacuums. Did you check out the link I posted for the one on eBay?

Gonzo
I bought a new Fein about 3 years ago. It's very quiet. It sits about six feet behind me. I use it mainly on my scroll saw, bandsaw, and drill press. Spendy? Yes! But one of the best wood working purchases I've made. I use a remote like Steve Goode has to turn the vac on and off.
