I'll either listen to NPR or an audio book. I just get some audio books from the Library. In fact, many libraries also offer free downloadable audiobooks. Basically, you go to their website and "check out" and download the audiobook for 2 weeks. Then the file automatically "returns" the book (self deleting file) to the library so the next person can check it out. Lots of fun.

I have a stereo in my shop with a CD of mp3 music, which plays almost 6 hours of my favorite tunes from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Also some of the good old country music by Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, George Strait, etc. When I'm working in the shop with the garage door open and neighbors go walking by, they go 'two-stepping' by in tune to the music thats playing. I'm fortunate to have great neighbors in our complex of 64 families, and many of them stop in to visit and see what I'm working on.

When cutting my first project I was mainly listening to Hollywood Undead, Skillet, and a live recording of The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem. Oh, and I did put a little Native American flute music from Douglas Spotted Eagle at the beginning of the second project.

I like to listen to the noise or tune of the saw, I was taught to always listen to the piece of machinery your using. By doing this you always know if there is something happening to the saw or if it's working properly. And as far as I'm concerned, it's just another distraction that's not needed around running machinery. But this only my personel opinion, and I think that whatever makes a person more comfortable around the shop, is what they should do in the long run. Because afterall it should be as enjoyable and stress releving as possible, and I do like to listen to the machinery operate, really. Weird huh?

I listen to selections from my second love after scrolling...old time radio shows

I downloaded an app of old time radio after reading this. I've been really enjoying listening to the old detective and scifi shows. What a great thing to listen to while working in the shop!

I downloaded 2 iPhone apps:

Radio Spirits(http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/radio-sp ... 11220?mt=8) which is a public radio show that plays old shows.

Vintage Radio Lite (99 cents) (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vintage- ... 17232?mt=8) that has a bunch of programs broken down by Genre and series title.

Between the two, I'll have lots to listen to. Been enjoying the Sci-Fi shows especially, but listening to detective and horror as well.
