jellis2 Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 Why do you use 1/4" BB plywood instead or 1/8" BB? OCtoolguy 1 Quote
bcdennis Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 My main reason would be more stability for the tight cuts and fret work. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Denny Knappen Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 I don't like to stack cut, only one of a kind. 1/8" needs to be stack cut. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
dgman Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 It’s your choice. When I cut portraits, I will stack cut four 1/8” layers. If I desire more depth, I will stack cut two 1/4” layers. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Foxfold Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 Don't know about anyone else but, I use ¼" because I like the 'depth' it gives and because I usually only do 'one offs' another consideration for me at least is Tony has tons of the stuff and it's free. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
jerry1939 Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 I always used 1/8". Put a 1/8" luan "Sacrifice Board" for a backer. Luan is cheap at our Lowes. Put the top grain cross-wise to the bottom grain of your good piece. It will blow your mind at how much it supports tiny areas. Luan is cheap insurance. jerry OCtoolguy, Heli_av8tor and OzarkSawdust 2 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 Well I cut one offs now and then with just one piece.. Never had much issues with it.. I do like stack cutting because most times I'm selling the piece and maybe more buyers at a later time.. If it's a personalized item that only needs one piece.. I just cut the one piece.. I originally cut this one as a single piece... then everyone wanted one and I ended up having to cut 4 more... that's why i just stack cut everything now.. That's a lot of holes to cut for just one time... then need to make 2 more a week later.. LOL.. Not doing that again unless it's personalized.. OCtoolguy, Foxfold, new2woodwrk and 2 others 4 1 Quote
MrsN Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 I use 1/8" for most of mine. Like some have mentioned, 1/4" gives a bit more depth to a picture and that is sometimes is nice. Sometimes 1/4" is easier to find or cheaper. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Sparkey Posted January 22, 2020 Report Posted January 22, 2020 I have never cut 1/8 inch but a friend told me that the extra depth of the 1/4 inch made the finished product look a lot better. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Hawk Posted January 22, 2020 Report Posted January 22, 2020 For what it's worth I use 1/8 for all my portraits..Both Lee and Grant are 1/8" Chris OCtoolguy, Foxfold, Scrappile and 2 others 3 2 Quote
