Used a Delta, plunge cut, saw for thirty plus years, then bought a 30" Excalibur. Sold the shop years ago and I'm looking for a scroll that compares to the Excalibur. Denny Knappen Posted January 24, 2020 Report Share Posted January 24, 2020 Hi Phil. I have the 30th edition Excalibur and it has been my go to saw. Our store is a dealer for the Pegas Scroll Saw. We have one at ArtCrafters as a demo and for classes. After using the saw for several months, it is now my go to saw. I would highly recommend the Pegas Scroll Saw. tgiro Posted January 24, 2020 Report Share Posted January 24, 2020 The current Excalibur saw is a re-engineered model that is made in China. People who have purchased it seem to be having issues with it. The manufacturer who made the old Excalibur saws, now turns out Excalibur-type step children under different brands. There is the King brand, mostly sold in Canada, but the US Woodcraft stores sell it. Jet tools, now sells an Excalibur type, but it has some differences. Ray Seymore, of SeyCo, has his own version of the Excalibur type saw, also with differences. The one that seems to have bubbled up in quality, and seems to keep all the old Excalibur features, is the Pegas. It looks to be the current leader of the Excalibur type lines. Bill WIlson Posted January 24, 2020 Report Share Posted January 24, 2020 I think it's the Excelsior brand that is the Excalibur/King equivalent in Canada. I think, originally there was an agreement that only the 16" and 21" version (King) would be available in the US and that the 31" saw would be sold in Canada under the Excelsior name. I'm not sure that's entirely the case anymore. Both brands may offer all sizes now, but as far as I know, King is still what is available in the USA brand and Excelsior is the same saw, sold in Canada. As for now I am enjoying my Ex - 21 that is about 5 years old and still working perfectly. I have an EX-21 which is the same as the current the current King line available at Woodcraft. Sold in Canada as Excelsior. If you are in Canada or close to the border the price in Canada is the same or cheaper than the Woodcraft price the add on 30% discount on the exchange it is a great price. One Canadian dealer has the Excelsior 16inch -$699700Cdn, 21 -$999Cdn, 30 - $1269 Love my EX-21. Nearly 10 years old and is used a lot. Vibration and deflection are my main concerns. I used to cut out letters on the scroll and band saw. Literally, I have cut over a million letters in my career. When I got the Excalibur I could stack up to 1 3/4" without any deflection. Remarkable saw. And I could change out letters in seconds. Here is a sample of what I did. He is in a little industrial park off of Mimms Rd. That's where I got my EX-21, when I was out visiting my oldest son in Garland in 2012. If I was where I could test drive a Pegas I sure would give that saw a try. Have heard nothing bad about it yet. Good luck on your decision. Puzzleguy Posted January 25, 2020 Report Share Posted January 25, 2020 I am interested in this post as well -Im a bit worried about my old Eclipse saws -they have been around for alot of years and are impossible to get parts for the last time i sent one out to a machine shop it cost me about 1/2 what one new would of been if they were still made -and it was gone for almost 3 months -which is crazy considering something as a back -up saw---- .
