Popular Post JimErn
at Intarsia I got the pattern from JGR and failed when I ordered it to note the size! So I reduced it to a regular page size. I found out that if you can cut puzzles you can cut intarsia (or segmentation for that matter) Cutting is the easy part (unless you are a masochist like Dave who started with hardest of them all), but I just don't have the artists eye for sanding to a 3-D kind of presentation, going to have to work on that. new2woodwrk
WOW! That's incredible for a first time. I still have not pulled the trigger on intarsia or segmentation Can't wait to see what else you do with intarsia! dgman
Jim, you are right that the cutting is the easy part. After all, if you can follow a line, then you can cut Intarsia. Yes, the hard part is the contouring and shaping. Just like everything else, that comes with practice. You have done an excellent job on your first attempt Jim! Rockytime
Looks really reat! Did you color the pieces or are they different colored woods? OCtoolguy and JimErn 1
Scrappile
I'm thinking you did a very fine job. I have done very little intarsia, but enough to know, you are correct, cutting is the easy part. Sanding and shaping,,,, that take an artist's eye. I do not have that talent. Yours look great. meflick
Nice work Jim. It’s definitely easy when you cut as segmentation, all from one wood piece. Does get a little more difficult when you are cutting little pieces, from different woods that you want to fit together even if you can cut on a line. I think it helps the more scrolling you have done though. But you are right, the artistic part of Intarsia is learning to do the sanding and shaping to give it the depth and dimension that brings it to life. Just like scrolling, one gets better with practice but I will say that some people just have a more natural eye and talent for that. Sadly, I am not one of those.
