Whew! Baskets/Bowls

I made a couple of them today, the spider web type. I made one before and I don't like doing them. lol  The only reason I'm making them is for practice, but every time I do them, the patterns fly off. I used contact paper before. Today I used tape, doh. Did. Not. Work. I get kind of stressed out making them with the pattern floppin' all over the place. But I persevered and made 2 stacked. I think I need to get some mineral spirits and glue things directly onto the wood. I do pretty good when I use carbon paper to draw the pattern onto the wood, nothing in the way, like that.

How do you keep your patterns from trying to run away from home? lol

Blue painters tape under the pattern. Tape does not come off unless you pull it off. Pattern sticks better on an underlayment as opposed to directly on wood. The grain is not flat so lots of air spaces under it where pattern does not stick. Some people use shelf paper. I am going to try this because I bought rolls when Iggy posted the link for a sale on it.

Sounds like ya probably oughtta get yerself a spray bottle & pour mineral spirits in it. Lightly spray the surface yer fixin to glue to, wipe that down with a CLEAN cloth & let it dry, then glue yer pattern down.

If'n yer glue ain't holdin, ya ain't givin it enough time to sit after ya glue it to the wood, or the glue is old, or, they ain't enough glue on yer pattern to hold it in place. A feller should give yer fresh glued patterns overnight in order fer yer glue to set to yer lumber, otherwise yer gonna keep havin the issues yer discussin.

I use 3M 77 spray adhesive on all my patterns after I tape the wood with blue painters tape. The patterns stick in place and I ain't got any problem with them movin.

Hi, Linda,
I still like the blue painters tape and 3m77 spray glue but,  temperature and
humidity makes a huge difference.
Spray the glue as think as possible while still getting complete coverage
and let the glue tack up for about 60 seconds or so but, make sure the wood and the can of glue are both warm.
If it is cold and damp here, I take the wood and glue can into the house to come to room temperature
and then glue it up in the shop. (I'm frugal, I won't heat the shop just to warm up the can of glue! LOL)

Hopefully one of the tips you got will work out so you know what works best for you.

God Bless! Spirithorse
