Good video and makes even non- DeWalt owners a little more familiar with these types of saws. Excalibur, Seyco, King, etc., are similar configuration. That is true. Did not think of that. kmmcrafts
Actually having taken both saws apart.. I'll say that the Excalibur is about 2 times easier to take apart and put back together than the DW788's at least I thought so anyway.. lol.. yes the mechanism is really similar but they are different parts and different bearings / sleeves.. etc.. I do believe the front rocker assemblies may be the same.. but that's about it.. OCtoolguy

He bought the saw already and this a done deal so we need to encourage him. The last question was about maintenance on the Dewalt. That is where the discussion on weather to take apart and how easy. The Dewalt is a good saw for sure. Needs attention at times. Oscar Myer, Wilson142 and OCtoolguy 2
Fedido
Just thought I would wrap this thread up some with an update of the scroll saw. While a few of you guys had me concerned of my purchase, I have been scrolling for a few weeks now and able to say I absolutely love the saw. Quiet, easy to use and a total joy. Thank you all for all the comments. Hendo OCtoolguy

OCtoolguy
Thanks for the update. I'm glad your purchase came out good. Sometimes things DO go your way. There was a lot of great info on this thread and I'm glad that nothing scared you off from your purchase. That saw is a great saw as JT stated and with the proper maintenance, it will serve you well. Happy scrolling. Now, post some pics of your work.
Fedido
OC, Thanks. Funny story. It stopped working today. Because of this thread, troubleshot, acquired a fuse and replaced it within 20 minutes. Just for you, some of the work. At your leisure, start cleaning and checking things out. You have all the knowledge.
Fedido
Thanks OC, I am extremely confident that I was cutting hardwood in a turn and had the speed too low. OCtoolguy

What blade? I did that all the time with my Dewalt. Never blew a fuse. If your saw is having to work because of drag in the bearings, the added stress of the tight turn in thick hardwood might have put too much strain on the motor and caused the overload. Just surmising.
Fedido
OC, that is the same train of thought I have had. Used it today for about an hour and a half with no problems. If it continues to work, then I will call it an anomaly. If it blows another fuse, then yes, there is an underlying problem. Fedido
@octoolguy, just because I believe in being through and sharing my experiences (most of the time for pure comical value), I ran the saw again last night through its paces and had no problems. Therefore I am concluding that the fuse blowing is placed squarely on operator error. Now if I could just fine a good operator. Have fun, enjoy your new saw and let the chips (sawdust) fall where they may. Oscar Myer and Fedido
