Cross about done

Well, I've about got the cross done for an order. Thank you to all the folks that gave me finishing advice!

Due to time and space in the winter shop I elected to go with Shellac base and will probably top coat with a couple light sprays of Satin Lacquer. I dipped the fretwork and sprayed the walnut backer. Mostly as a test. Dipping, while getting into the nooks and crannies, was a real mess and the spray would probably have gotten into everywhere someone could see. I ended up giving both a couple of light sprays. Will let it set for about 24 hrs. and shoot a little lacquer on it...after trying a test scrap first.

What do you think...glue together before or after a couple coats of lacquer? Or does it make any difference? I kind of like it so far...may use this finish more often.

Added the final picture. After I glued it up I shot a couple coats of lacquer on it and let it dry.

A Steve Good pattern done in Hard Maple with Walnut backer. Cut with Pegas MG #3 & #1 blades. Finished with shellac base and satin lacquer top coat.
