Dragonkort
Well I know I said id have pictures of the ark of the covent im making from Steve goods pattern but spike is polyurthing them right now. I made 4 of them and I broke one of the pieces of the people holding the pole that the ark rests on. Well I remade it and this time spike broke the darn thing!!! lol but luckly for me he was able to gule it back together so I don't have to remake that piece again. lol yea!! I must mention that I didn't follow the directions exactly. It says If I remember right that the piece is suppose to be made from 1/4 and 1/8 inch wood. Well I have a hard time getting 1/8 inch wood here. lowes and marnards don't seem to have it and that primarly where I get my wood. Im going to ask my son in law if he can fnd me some 1/8 inch wood as I can't always fudge the pattern im using. lol So what I did was I made the ark out of the 1/4 inch wood and the people I made out of 3/4 inch wood. this worked out pretty good and I think it looked nice as it gave me some wood to practice carving. I ran into a few problems doing this however ….. or one problem times 4! when I made the side bars of the ark where the notches are....I didn't figure in the larger wood of the poles!! lol grrrr so now I had to either toss out what I had made or try to think of some way to get the wider poles to rest inside those little notches from the sidebars of the ark....well I am not one to redo something and waist the good parts when If I can find a way to fix it. So what I did is this....I cut 4 very small pieces of the 1/4 inch wood and then drilled a hole with my very small drill bit into the side of the 1/4 inch wood and then on cut a small piece of toothpick and glued it into the drilled hole. I did this for all for of the side bars then I set the side bars on the the part that's suppose to be the pole and drilled a little hole where the notiches lined up and insirted the other other end of the toothpick into the hole on the bar the people were holding. this will make more sense when you see the pictures. im afaired im not explineing it very well. but anyway now the sidebars of the ark rest on pole parts better. I also seem to have trouble when making notch and slot projects. no matter how careful I am I never seem to be able to get the notches to fit into t he holes!!! grrrs lol so it takes a lot of fanagleing to put the darn things together. I used all 1/4 in wood for the ark so you would think the notiches would fit nicely into the slots.....but no the notches were all to big to fit into the slots. well spike helped me put it together by making the slots bigger until the notices would fit into them. unfrountly this made some of t he slots to big!!! well neither one of us wanted to redo all the ark pieces again (espicaly since I have this problem with all notch and slot projects I do. (you proubly already know this trick but just in case you don't heres what we did. )we used white alex pluss acrylic latex caulk plus silicone to fill in the holes then sanded it smooth before painting it. lol I wouldn't do this on toys or anything that's going to be used for food,, but for something like this it worked great!! the first 2 look a little rough so I'll keep one of those and give the other one to my daughter. the 2 that came out good i'll give to the 2 people who asked me to make them one. lol today I finished cutting out the elephant phone charger thingy and yes the notches don't fit into the slotes!!! grrrr!! this time however instead of trying to make the slots bigger i'll take my trusty dermal and work on making the notches smaller. im making like 10 of them so hopeful at least half of them will come out good enough to give away and if im real lucky one or two might be good enough to put in the stock box. lol i'll get the pictures up asap hopefuly tomarrow so this post might make a little better sense. lol tomarrow i'll fagle with the elephants and tonight i'll just sit and crochet a bit or maybe cut out some plastic canvas. lol
