That is some fine scrolling. I just can't get the hang of using a spiral blade.

Ralph I started a couple + months ago with the spirals, after first trying unsuccessfully about a year ago. This time it just clicked, and now I have at least a couple of hundred hours of using them. I find them to work great on portraits, especially those with tons of details of things like hair. I’ll probably never do a portrait like this one with just flat blades again.

Really nice piece. One of my favorite blues musicians. I also cut a lot of Charles Dearing, Charles Hand and Mike Williams. I usually reduce to the size of wood I have. Lately I have been cutting everything from 3/8" BB because I like the look and I find I don't have to be quite so fussy about sanding the fuzzies because they aren't nearly as apparent on the thicker wood. We could be brothers by a different mother, I just ordered a gross each of Pegus 2/0 and #1spirals lol

Wilson, I also just reordered a mess of 2/0 and #1’s from Denny @Artcrafters, along with a size I have never used before- size 0. I wish I could get even smaller Pegas spirals than 2/0.

I believe the Flying Dutchman 3/0 spiral is a little smaller then the Pegas 2/0.  It is what I use for veining and really small areas.

Great job on cutting BB.   I Can't imagine cutting it that small.  Very nice work.

I love the spiral blade experts here in The Village. One can not match the quality and ability to cut such delicate frets with a flat blade. I use them occasionally with success and occasionally without success. Not sure why I seem to do them one pretty well one time and not the next. I guess it boils down to practice...practice...practice.

Great  job  on this piece Old Joe, as well as all that you post. I believe I saw this one done at  Scrappile's house that last time I visited with him. Very  interesting and challenging pattern
