Pegas Clamps

I got a set of clamps for my EX21 from Denny. Steve Good did a vibration test using a cell phone app. I did the same. With the standard clamps it showed 0.3. With the pegas it showed 0.1. Other things I noticed are the saw is quieter. The tension level works much easier.  Not sure if it is my imagination but it seems like I don’t have to hold the wood down to the table as hard. Only negative thing is after 10+ years of putting the blade into the bottom clamp (I top feed) it took a few hole changes to get the “feel” of were the clamp slot is. Really no big deal there.  Would I take off a set of good clamps just to go to the pegas clamps? No. But mine was about 6 years old and needed the change. Just my 3 cents worth.

I bought a set because Scrappile was looking for another opinion on them from someone who uses spiral blades. My old clamps were (and still are)fine. I bought the set for a Dewalt DW788 and they don't come with the tensioning lever. I see a little less vibration (maybe) and while they are fine clamps, I don't know if I would give them a full vocal recommendation. They were only a bit more expensive that the Dewalt replacement. If I had it to do over, I would have ordered a set with the tensioning lever and hoped they would still fit my Dewalt. From the sounds of reviews on other saws, I think the quick blade change without needing retensioning would be a huge benefit for me because I do mostly fretwork. If I ever see a review from a Dewalt owner who has tried the set with the lever, I would probably consider buying a set.

I bought the first set for my EX21. The old clamps were still in good working order but I liked the simplicity of the Pegas and so I bought a set. I have NO regrets. They gave me less vibration and it's obvious that they are lighter weight. I love how they work too. So effortless and smooth. I DO feel that they are a bit pricey so I still haven't pulled the trigger on another set for my EX16 but at some point, after the world comes back to it's senses, I'll order another set. Maybe by then they will feel that the price is too high and drop it a bit. I know, wishful thinking.

I bought a set for my Dewalt some time back. I had just replaced the thumb screws earlier that season, but based on a few early reviews, I popped for a set and found the differences worth the cost of the upgrade.

Maybe the better bite on the blade or the feeling that top feeding seems faster--but I can't think of putting the factory clamps back on the saw. Yes, I did save them in case. Took me maybe five drill holes to realize i made the right choice.

Which set did you buy? Did you buy the set with the tensioning lever or the other?

If I had bought the Pegas for my Dewalt, I was going to buy the Pegas design. I figured that the tension slider on the Dewalt was basically the same as the black knob on the EX's so I would just move it to about half way and leave it there and do all the tensioning with the Pegas white lever. I'm sure there must be folks who have done this.

I put a set on the Dewalt. The recommendation is to buy just the Dewalt style clamp. Use the regular Dewalt tensioner.  It works great.

I was going to do as I said because I liked that way of tensioning and would not have to worry about which saw I was using and how to tension. The muscle memory would not have to learn and remember two different things to do the same job.

But it works different on the Dewalt. I don’t see how it would function right. The tension is applied from the back on my EX correct?

and from the front on the Dewalt.

The tension on the EX-21 is not applied from the back.

It took you as many as five holes?       😀 I knew after one hole after replacing the clamps on my EX-30 that I had made the right choice.  😀

No, the tension is applied from the front on both saws. The black knob is NOT for tensioning. It's only there to adjust the arm. On the Dewalt I would set the tension full ON or at a point that allowed the blade to be installed as far as length would permit. Then actually apply the tension with the lever on the top clamp. If you think about it on the Dewalt the tension lever does the same thing as the EX/Pegas. It sets the arm height. So once it's set, leave it there and apply tension with the lever.
