All the suggestions are good.....anything to be safer.  You need to keep the board from shooting back and keep it from climbing over the back edge of the blade.

I use the Gripper for two reasons.  One is that it controls smaller pieces very well.  The second is that you can adjust the handle to make it more ergonomic.  I have worn out wrist joints which are painful and the Gripper makes things easier.

I have two Grippers, use them a lot.  Only thing I don't like about them, is the stabilizing foot is always on the wrong side every time I want to use one or both..... always... and I have to move it to the other side.... I don't understand how that happens!🥴

Trackman you got lucky this time. We all know better but it is that "quicky" that gets us every time. I cut a lot of the 1/16 (1.5mm) ply for my ornaments into squares. The problem is that occasionally it slips under my fence and it has nailed me. I will make a sled for this in the future.

In the mean time I bought a pair of the Grippers at a show years ago. They are priceless!. I very rarely use a push stick anymore.  The gripper  has thumb screws so it takes no time to change the setting. but having two I rarely have to. I use them on my jointer, router table band saw etc.
