Bad Year

Today would have been my first show of the year and it was cancelled due to the coronavirus. I believe this will be a bad year for shows even if they start up at a later date as people won't have the money after being out of work, no telling how long this virus will continue. Not really sure if I should start making Christmas Items or not everything seems to be up in the air for now. What are other people feelings on the  shows.

I think we all need to be optimistic that this will end soon. If we all heed directions by our local officials, we will be back to normal by summer. I’m still cutting for my shows at the end of the year and my Etsy store. I don’t sell much there because I don’t advertise, but I do sell some. And if the winter shows are cancelled, I’ll have plenty of stock for next year.
Don’t  be discouraged, things will even out! Stay positive!!!

Thank you Dan for having a cool head. People have gone nuts over this whole thing. Over reacting seems to be the order of the day.

This may be a bad year, but this hysteria has gotten out of control.  At ArtCrafters, we had virtually no sales for a whole week.  We were closed today and a customer complained that we were not open.

Well Denny, you were supposed to know that that person was coming in. They probably wanted something you didn't have anyway.

I personally plan to do a lot of cutting, I might be in a better situation than those selling only at shows.. but even if nobody buys anything from me.. I have and will continue to cut whatever it is I want / like to cut.. If nothing else.. shop time gets my mind off of the issues at hand. I have plenty of lumber to be stuck at home for the entire year.. Of coarse I'll run out of food and all the essentials.. BUT.. my point is.. If nothing else.. time behind the saw is better than time wasted on worrying about something I have very little control over..

Keep cutting.  Before the virus we did not have any guarantee of a good year or good sales for Christmas but we kept getting prepared.

And if sales are bad, you will be stocked up for later.  Not cutting will give you time to concentrate on the bad times.  This ain't the first bump in the road we have had.

While sales may be sluggish through out the year, the bright side is leveling out the contagions and avoiding a worse situation

I've been spending a lot of time in my shop. Making little odds and ends out of all the left over and junk pieces I've had since I started.

If nothing else, it is giving me lots of practice and lots of inventory to sell later on if it gets to that point.

We just had our first confirmed case of Covid-19 here, so we're battening down the hatches for another week. More projects, more fun.

Chins up everyone, it can't last forever!

This is the end of my "season" so to speak. I sold at the craft shows in 55+ RV parks in the Rio Grande Valley of TX. I decided to try one in the first part of Jan....it took on a life of it's own!

I did 21 shows in 3 months and had 5 canceled, last Sat. through today. Had 2 call me to let me know they canceled while I was doing the only show this week, Monday, and they shut down all activities when the show was over at noon.

I'm going to cut this summer and bring stock with me next year! I've already got a table locked at several shows I've done...and already weeded out a couple of dud shows I won't go back to.

I WAS going to find some shows to do this summer...but that's not looking too good now. Maybe by mid to late summer and fall as we'll head south just after Thanksgiving.

I do not do craft shows, I only sell by word of mouth but I doubt very much if I will get any orders this year, with everyone being out of work, which for me is great, because now I can cut all the patterns I want to cut for myself.  That is a win win for me 🎉  🎉  🎉  (Glass half full moment) ;)
