I have a twenty year old Shop Vac brand vacuum.  It's 2.25 hp, 6 gallon unit that uses 1-1/4" hoses.  It has strong suction but is such a screamer that I haven't used it in a long time.  Maybe I'll put it back to work if I can muffle the noise.  Do you think that vacuum is too much suction for that little cyclone?  I'm concerned that it might suck up what's in the canister and defeat the purpose of the cyclone.

The bottom of the bottle has a concave that matches the convex of the vac. Hot glue that to the vac. It will cut the noise more than half and not bother the air flow. Yes, I will post a pic as soon as I get a chance. It probably won't work unless you have the "metro vac" type of vacuum. I have a couple other things that are priority today.

You can design it with an air bleed so you can control the amount of suction. A pvc water valve in the line is all you need. Adjustable.

Yesterday a friend of mine punched a hole in my shops back wall which placed my vacuum outside the shop and into the garage portion.Noise from the vacuum is reduced but there is a significant noise from the vacuum hoses on the saw. I'm surprised. Also the 1/2" hose opening underneath the table has considerably more suction than the 1/4" Loc-Line  at the top of the table. I may make some change there.

I noticed when I had my Dewalt and the Fein hooked up to it that I had a lot of suction noise at the nozzles. Not sure how to go about taming that down but I'm think that if the bottom of yours with the funnel doesn't make as much noise, it's got to be the size of the opening of the top one. Mine was a 3/4" LocLine nozzle. I'm going to see what happens when I have my new set up installed. So far, I've not had time to do anything with it. I'm involved with trying to get my slot machine up and running. I had the coin battery that holds the ram memory go bad and I finally got around to fixing it but something else is wrong now. I'm about ready to S-can the whole thing.

I'm gonna open the nozzle to 1/2" tonight and see how it affects the noise and suction. Slot machines? Is that for when some of the ladies can't get to bingo?  A liile patio casino?

I bought a machine about 8 years ago from the Stratosphere in Vegas. Actually, I bought it in Fort Mohave Az. It has always worked great but about a year ago, I turned it off to save on electricity. The lights run 24/7. Anyway, the cmos battery went dead trying to keep the ram memory alive so I had to solder on a new one. Now, I've got a problem with it that is driving me nuts. But, I'll fix it. It may take me until the economy reopens but I'll fix it.

I have 1/4" Loc-Line. Very small orifice. I think it's 1/4". What size hole does your 3/4" have?

@Foxfold @Wilson142 here ya go. 3 pics. Not sure what order they will post in but in one pic you can see the convex end on the vac and the concave end of the OJ bottle. The next pic shows how well they mate together. I haven't hot-glued them yet. The 3rd pic is just to show that the bottle has the cap off of it. I used a hole saw to cut a hole in the bottom end of the bottle that matches the exhaust on the vac. Once I get everything figured out as to mounting etc. I'll glue them together and maybe shorten the neck on the bottle. I was blown away at how quiet it is with the bottle up against the vac without any seal so it will be even better once I hot-glue it together. The MicroVac is only 4" in diameter so it will fit up under my stand and not even be seen.

That's interesting. I thought you placed the cap end of the bottle into the vacuum and cut a hole in the bottom of the bottle. That's what I did and the result was not that great. Also the little vac is tiny. 4" diameter. Wow. I'll have to get one. That and a bottle would mount vertically on the rear leg of the Hegner taking nearly no space. How long is the combination of the vac together?

23 inches. My stand is 24" so it's gonna be tight but I can cut a little off the neck if necessary. I've gotta get a couple of pvc fittings to make 90 degree bends. I pretty much designed the plumbing for the upper and lower pickups. It's going to be cool.

By the way, I've had my setup for about a month. I'm not a production cutter by any means, but I've cut about 10 average sized fretwork patterns and I emptied my cyclone bottle for the first time today. Probably didn't need it but I was curious about how the tiny bag in the vac was doing. It was maybe 1/4 full. I shook it out and reinstalled.   I'm still catching around 90% of the saw dust. Extremely fine, some like talcum powder fine. I can tell I have less dust in my house (my saw is setup in my laundry room off the kitchen) and I'm glad "I'm" no longer the air cleaner. My cleanup now is sweeping up the small cutout pieces and a 45 second run of the shop vac.

Ray, tried the bottle on the end of a Metrovac to muffle the sound.  Works well.  I used an app on my phone to measure the decibels from the vac, and had a reduction of almost 10 decibels.  This is about half the perceived volume.  I am still going to wear ear protection, to keep the tinnitus from getting worse.  Now all I need to do is get the cyclone hooked up and get back to sawing.

Not "Absolut". I only drink the cheap stuff. I found out many years ago that I can reach a level of drunkenness just as quick with the cheap stuff. Thunderbird, Boone's Farm. It all results in me driving the porceline bus. Anyway I hope this helps.

nothing special. Only thing I did was avoid all but one 90 degree elbow because I wasn't sure about the amount of suction from the small vac. I'm very surprised that it works as well as it does. Had it to do over, I would have done it piece meal instead of paying the extra for the Seyco setup.

I'm looking at doing my own set up too.  The same vac that is included in the Seyco set up is 94.99 on Amazon, haven't searched Ebay yet.  With that price, plus the cost of the extra hose and cyclone, I think I can save about $40.  If I can use some old CPAP hoses for both under and over the table, I can save even more.

I bought my saw from Ray and I want to support his business, but I need to save money when possible.

My main concern with a vac that small is how well it will hold up to long hours of use.  But even a larger vac can burn out.
