OCtoolguy
I'm posting this here but if it needs to go somewhere else, please move it. I came across this advertisement for a laser cut model kit but I want to try making it on a scroll saw. Have any of you folks ever done this or even attempted it? I'm wondering if there are paper plans for this or something similar available. I've been doing a little bit of searching but so far I haven't found one like this. I was thinking it might be a project that could be worked on in between other stuff. A project to take your mind off of whatever you've been working on. And furthermore, I love trains. scrollingforsanity and Dave Monk
dgman
As you probably know Ray, these kits are laser cut. I am not aware of any plans. I think those kits are not that expensive. It might be worth it to buy the kit and draw patterns from the existing parts. Just a thought. OCtoolguy and scrollingforsanity 1

I emailed them with my question but you are right about doing it that way. Lots of parts and pieces. It's just a thought that ran through my quarantined mind. scrollingforsanity and Dave Monk 1
dgman
Another thought might be to check out the sites that cater to laser patterns. I don’t know of any personally, but Steve good is always talking about them. OCtoolguy and scrollingforsanity 1
Rockytime
Are you sure Ray? That would be mind boggling for me. OCtoolguy and scrollingforsanity 1

I got a reply back from ROKR puzzles informing me that they do not sell any patterns but if I was to buy a kit, it would be my own business if I wanted to make up my own patterns. I must might do that. SOMEDAY!. I just really want that locomotive. It would look neat on my wall. scrollingforsanity
Paul hd
Hi Ray, There are kits at laser.com but they are not as nice looking as the picture you put up. https://www.laserscroll.com/browse-store/trains/ scrollingforsanity and OCtoolguy 1

What I liked about the ROKR kits is that they are gear driven when finished. Turn the crank and watch all the mechanism turn. Pretty cool. scrollingforsanity
kmmcrafts
You might try searching for these terms.. "Train laser cut files" or "train dxf files" or vector files.. CNC files etc etc.. Now.. I will say some of these take a program to get them to open.. especially the DXF files.. Many of the car clock and even some of the other items I make and sell are actually CNC dxf type files that I've bought and modified to work for my needs.. Now that I post these tips.. I'm going to go search some of my bookmarked sites for these cnc type files.. In the cnc world we don't call them patterns as they are files that you upload to the cnc or to a thumb drive to the cnc etc.. but if you can get a program to open them ( sometimes just screen shots from your computer screen ) then you can print them out as patterns, LOL scrollingforsanity and OCtoolguy 1
BadBob
I did some searching with google and found a lot of them but mostly they were Corel Draw files. Then I tried adding the file extension I preferred to my search (svg) and that worked well. I snagged a 3d Puzzle for an F-18 I want to try.
