Mothers day

My hubby made me a pen for Mothers Day.  Gigi style blank, Maple, Cocabola, Chechen, and Black Veneer.  What makes this even more special is he used the lathe tools that were is fathers. His father taught his wood working when he was growing up. His father passed away 33 years ago.

great pen~~ last month I asked to my friends to make dragon pen for my kid coz his birth year is dragon 

we made two and I shared one each with my kid

oh that is so cool!!! beautiful workmanship!!! I inhearted my exs lath when he died, and he had all kinds of blanks for pen making and some small tool I think you use to put it together...iv seen small laths for making pens and often wounder if they can be made on a big lath? I don't know if he got the big lath for big things and then died before he could get the smaller lath for pen making.  iv bought a book on the lath but so far I need to get some kind of square wood that I can practice turning on. lol I have a lot of the lath chisles too im thinking of maybe trying to take a lath class at johnsons work bench over the summer if they have one this year and if I can manage to get out of the house lol but if not i'll just keep reading my book and try to learn it that way lol but im rattleing here sorry its just such a great looking pen it makes me want to go out play with the lath!!

oh that is so beautiful  namunolie!!!   with these kinds of pictures it just might give me the motivevation I need to actuall take that class!! lol

You can make pens on a big lathe. We bought our lathe at Johnson work Bench.  We have a Jet Midi lathe.  Have you been to the Wood Expo at Johnson Work Bench?
