Jim McDonald Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 I have a friend who used to scuba dive and he always used toothpaste on the inside of his mask. Don't know if I would try it on optical grade plastic or not. smitty0312 1 Quote
WayneMahler Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 Thanks. We spent this week end over our daughters as I had work to do in her house. When Kristin and I went to HD we had to wear masks and mine kept fogging up. Kris and I talked about it as she wears glasses all the time and my reading glasses would fog up when trying to read something on a label. I will have to share this with her as well as my wife and use this myself . Really appreciate this info . Thank you for sharing this. smitty0312 1 Quote
spirithorse Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 Thanks, Smitty, My mother in law was just asking for alternatives to try. She heard shaving cream on the lenses works but, it did not work for her. I'll pass this along. God Bless! Spirithorse smitty0312 1 Quote
Bill WIlson Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 Couple things you can do to help with the problem. Make sure you've sealed off around your nose, as much as possible. Paper masks have a metal strip there. Form it as tightly to the bridge of your nose as is comfortable. Some home made masks use a wire or pipe cleaner sewn into the top edge to do the same thing. Next, push your glasses slightly down on your nose, so that it is resting on the mask and isn't between the top edge and your eyes. The whole idea is to minimize the amount of warm air escaping out of the top of your mask and coming in contact with your glasses. Sealing the top of the mask helps with this. The other thing is to minimize the temperature/humidity difference between the air coming from the mask and the air directly around the glasses. Creating a little distance between your glasses and your face allows that warm moist air to dissipate a little, so that it is less prone to fogging your glasses. smitty0312 1 Quote
JimErn Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 Well shucks, if I had known this was an issue, I could have told you this too, though admittedly not in as well a fashion. I learned this trick in the Army back in 1970-71 and Pert+ is an excellent shampoo too. smitty0312 1 Quote
wombatie Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 I use baby shampoo and that work too but not for months, just a week or two. Marg Quote
ChelCass Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 I do this to our bathroom mirror so when you take a shower it won't fog up. I just use whatever face soap we have. Lasts for 2-3 months. smitty0312 1 Quote
Puzzleguy Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 Ive heard rain-x is good as well - Its getting crazy around here - we have a law concerning face masks and not to many are following it - getting to the point where you almost need a better mask than just a face covering and safety glasses with sides just to shop . Were shopping every other week - Quote
teachnlearn Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 If anyone wants more information, this topic was done for car windows. One person did a comparison of various suggestions on YouTube. Don't have the energy today to look, should be easy to find. RJF Quote
