John B Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 G'day all, Sorry about the silence from my side. We have had quite a bit going on, besides the virus. I had a quite a severe bashing from the "Black Dog" and haven't cut anything for a while. On the plus side my wife, Elizabeth, has been made Principal of St Mary's Primary School, here in Kalgoorlie. She was acting for the 1st term and applied for the position full time. Little did she know what a mixed blessing it would end up being with all the changes and stress due to the virus. Things are settling down know and I have quit my old job as a support worker after (about 6 years) and am now the groundsman, maintenance person and general dogs body at the school. 4 hour a day 6am - 10am. Some days are a battle but, we can't have it all our way all the time. I will try and get back to being a regular contributor and hopefully garner a little enthusiasm to wind up the saw again ;) I hope everybody is well and have weathered the lock downs and avoided any illness. WE are pretty lucky, being in Western Australia which had very few cases and now hasn't had any new for about 5 days., and even more lucky being in country WA, away from the big smoke. Take care and keep well Charlie E, Scrolling Steve, RabidAlien and 1 other 4 Quote

Jim McDonald Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 Always great to hear from you. Glad to hear all is going up in the land down under. Congrats to Elizabeth on the new position and best wishes for her and the school. John B 1 Quote
meflick Posted May 21, 2020 Report Posted May 21, 2020 (edited) I understand about the black Dog. Hopefully you have gotten him locked up and doing better. Glad your wife got the job and it got you a part time one to boot. Hope you find some new joy in the saw soon. Edited May 21, 2020 by meflick John B 1 Quote
Charlie E Posted May 21, 2020 Report Posted May 21, 2020 Hi John. I wasn't familiar with the Black Dog expression so I googled it. If it was correct and you're referring to depression then I completely understand. I've been in a good place for a while now but boy can I relate to the dark places. Certainly zaps my motivation to do things I normally enjoy. The two things that help me the most, besides Lexapro , are mindfulness exercises and just knowing I'm not alone. Just said a prayer for you, hang in there and breathe. John B 1 Quote
wombatie Posted May 21, 2020 Report Posted May 21, 2020 We are always here for you John just remember that. Try scrolling even if it's only for half an hour a day it may help you. You have a good job now, no stress and a good boss. Terry used to be the handyman at our school after he had finished his normal work, I was his boss, still am. Congratulations to your wife on her promotion but being a Principal is a very hard task with and without the virus. Take care. Marg John B 1 Quote

The job I think helped heaps, as I had to keep on going. I have a lot of patterns and ideas, so here's to getting started on some soon. Cheers meflick 1 Quote

Most times it's few days of even a few weeks, but this time it really laid me low for quite awhile. The only good thing about it is I know it won't last and that there ia a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how long that tunnel is. Charlie E and meflick 2 Quote

When I get into these dark places I tend to forget that there are people who care. But once I'm on the other side I really do appreciate everyone. I'/m not much of a gardener but with Google and a gardening neighbour I am blundering through. Now the handyman part I really do enjoy, solving problems etc. I can relate to Terry and his boss Thanks heaps meflick 1 Quote
