I just finished this one for our remembrance of all the men and women who fought for our freedom. Never forget!

One of the guys that were captured in the photo of the Marines hoisting the flag was a Native American that lived on a reservation only 6 miles from where I live. Wish I could have met him. I would love to hear his stories.

i love that picture you did a grea!! job!! iv been thinking of a project i want to make.....not sure from which medium....It says freedom is not free...all gave some some gave all honer  our solders....or something like that....just havent figured out how to make the pattern or like i said which medium to use.  Monday my sister and brother are going to the va cemerty where mom and are and there going to put flag on as many f the graves as we have flags...i asked them if theyd pick me up but so far no answer.  i think its the service men that usuly do it, but for some reason our govern has said they cant do that this year...geezzz the cementary is huge so its not to hard to following the socal distancing rule.. what does she think going to happen...that the living people will give the viries to the dead? ah well lol

Have any of you read "Flags of Our Fathers"? It's a story about the flag raisers on Iwo Jima.  A gut wrenching book, in a gut wrenching time. I highly recommend the book. Have a box of Kleenex nearby if you do read it

Nice job Kris!

I believe that name is correct but I honestly do not remember for sure.. He ended up an alcoholic and died outside almost homeless. Really sad way for a man to go after servicing so well for our country.

Today, we would have diagnosed it as severe PTSD.  Coupled with the way he was treated when he returned, being a Native American, plus the general public mentality that men should ManUp and not show that they're bothered by something meant he had nowhere to turn for help.  By all accounts, when sober, he was a great guy.

James Bradley's "Flags of Our Fathers" follows the six men in the photo through the battle for Iwo Jima, and the survivors afterwards (follow-on "Letters from Iwo Jima" shows the battle from the Japanese side, and is an eye-opener to the mentality of the IJA's senior NCO and officer corps).  Its an excellent read.
