Popular Post trackman
I seen the plans (16 pages worth) on Woodsmithplans.com. There is a lot of scrolling an sanding. Made from black walnut an white maple. The plans didn’t show the hand rails, front steps or the ballast in the track. I felt it was needed. I don’t have a way to do turning. So I just started sanding the main round engine using belt sander and anything else I could come up with. This is a gift to my youngest son so I wanted it to be totally made by me. It is hard to see in pictures but the sign on stand reads “New York Central Railroad Twentieth Century Limited Super Hudson Streamlined J3a Built 10 Between 1937-1938”. This has to be the most rewarding project that I have made in the 10+ years of woodworking! To see the emotion from my son when I showed it to him is what I will never forget. I have included a picture of the real engine and you notice I used the same engine number it had. Sorry for the long post but if you want anymore information just ask. Have probably over 40 hours in it. The stand is 30” long. Thanks for looking! don watson, MTCowpoke22, frankorona and 20 others 18

oldhudson
I subscribe to Woodsmith and when I got the issue with those plans I wondered who'd take on the challenge. I think you've done a fabulous job. Nice job with the photos too.
heppnerguy
that is one heck of a great piece. Impressive to say the least. You did such a great job detailing this one. It has to be the most amazing piece I have seen from a member of The Village. Don't get me wrong, as there are a ton of fabulous and amazing pieces posted here, but this one is the number one in my memory. Hats off to you Dick heppnerguy

spirithorse
That is a real labor of love1 You should borrow that from your son and enter it into your local fair woodworking competition. A best in show ribbon would look nice next to it! Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse heppnerguy
