Popular Post RabidAlien
Finished up another Harry Potter quote for my wife, not sure if I posted it. 3/4" generic plywood leftover from the bed project. Stained Minwax Cherry. #3 Pegas MG blade, if I recall correctly. Also, a Steve Good pattern from his newsletter the other day, a Nautilus Gear wingding. The gears spin on 1/4" dowel axles, and the plans even include cutting the washers that go on the ends of the axle. Dry-fitting after I cut it, I decided that the upright and the washers were tight enough fits for the axle, so I used a round file to make the gear holes a tad bit bigger. Not frictionless, but not tight. Easy to spin, but they're not going to ever be mistaken for a perpetual-motion machine. 1/4" BB ply, mostly, the base was a scrap of something I found in the may-be-useful-later bin that collects all sorts of odd cutoffs and random spiders. No worries....between the spiders and scorpions, I don't have to worry about too many crickets or roaches in my garage. Stained Minwax Honey (upright, base, and washers) and BLO (gears and axles). RabidAlien
And after assembly. It spins, gears mesh, does absolutely nothing but look awesome and let me know that cutting gears isn't as scary as it looks. Maybe time (har) to start looking at wooden clocks again... amazingkevin
