Popular Post wombatie
OK I finally took a couple of photos. I have no idea what any of the woods are except one is Camphor Laurel. I am really enjoying making these, I don't know what I was frightened of. I am using Flying Dutchman Polar blades #3 and #5 but one was so dense that I used 2 #5's so I had to get some #7's, they go through the wood like it's butter. don in brooklin on
Well done. I just love mini birdhouses. Can I ask where the pattern came from? Also, when I do them I stuff moss (from the dollar store ) in the hole. wombatie
Jim McDonald
Great work. I may have to go back to making a few from time to time. Don, the pattern is from Diana Thompson. It is about five years old. Maybe @Denny Knappen will check in with the exact location of the patterns. wombatie
don in brooklin on
I have the 15 from Diana Thompson plus another 10 in Bird houses 2014 that I bought from her site when it was up and running. I just don't recognize the pattern above especially the first one. PS: Diana also had a group of standing mini birdhouses. dgman
Excellent marg! The only difficult thing about them is finding or milling 1 1/4” wood. Marg, you did a great job on yours! wombatie

With great difficulty. I found the sanding the hardest part but all you can do is one side at a time. Marg

scrollerpete
I don’t understand the sanding aspect, I must have done 100 of these mini bird houses and I never sand any of them. Might have used a sanding mop on some, but I used a sealing coat first and then 2 to 4 coats of spray shellac. Dave Monk and dgman

Sometimes woods like Aspen And pine have fuzzies that need sanding, but most hardwoods come out nice and smooth, at least for me.

One of the house, the wood was very rough, it was the type of wood it was, it took ages to get it to a smooth finish. But the other 3 I didn't have to sand at all.
