Arrowhead Box with inlay Horse

The pattern is by Diana Thompson, but I modified it by inlaying a horse.  I follower Jim Finn's recommendation to use 3/8" stock for the inlay.  My wife suggested the white horse inlayed into the Walnut.  All other woods are scraps.  It was cut on the EX21 using FD Polar #3 and #9 blades.  Yes, I still have some FD blades at home.  The finish is three coats of Minwax spray Lacquer Clear Satin.  Comments welcome.

I tried inlay once.  Used 3/4" board.  LOL  I may have to revisit inlay again at some point, with more realistic wood.

My first attempt was with 1/4" stock.  Jim Finn suggested 3/8" stock.  I used FD Polar #3 and adjusted the angle with sample cuts until I was satisfied with the fit.  Then made the cut.

Thanks Ron.  In Diana's original pattern it had a fretwork kokopelli.  I preferred the horse.

that is simpley beautyfull!!!  ajusted the angle?   humm ok i take it cutting it on an angle makes it easer to insert the inlay??   lol  not knowing how to do something has never stoped me from doing it !! the playing cards box i made and inlayed with the sutes looked pretty good...humm wounder if i ever put that up.

Denny,  Really nice work on the box. Your inlay came out perfect. There is nothing but a beautifully done box. I too need to get back to trying inlay. I  was not very happy with my last effort, so I only need to venture on like you did and see some good results
