I finally mounted my saw on a stand - I'm impressed

About a week ago I finally put my saw on the stand and I'm impressed -- what little vibration it had is about gone -- I've heard of the nickel test so I gave it a shot -- in one of them I tried feeding the wood with one hand since I didn't bother with setting up the tripod -- this is running at full speed with a #1 pegas MG on 1/4 Baltic

I agree with Dan.. When I first got my EX-21 I was surprised how much vibration it had just sitting it on a bench.. then I had mounted it to a cheap HF stand that I had another tool mounted on at one time but sold the tool and kept the stand.. stand footprint was too small so I bolted a piece of plywood on it.. It had more vibration mounted to that stand than it did just setting on a bench.. Finally I picked up a actual EX-21 stand and what a difference...

All that said.. I think a nice heavy built wood stand would work pretty well provided you mount the saw in the center of it to distribute the weight to the stand and legs evenly..

When I built the stand for my EX21, I did just that but I put wheels on the rear of it so I could do like a wheelbarrow to move it around. It has worked out great. Sitting on the rubber matting there is virtually no vibration. I am doing the exact same thing with the new stand for the EX16 but it has the onboard dust system on it. It will be interesting to see if it's any different.

I believe that nickle was still standing on edge on your saw table when we had our visit a couple of weeks ago. You should be back in Mesa now and I hope you have some air conditioning where you are working as it is getting pretty dang hot down here now. Enjoyed our visit and getting to meet you and see your fabulous scroll work

I love the music you have playing in the background. Can you elaborate on who/what it is and what type of music is it called? I like soft jazz and blues like Eric Clapton plays. Any suggestions.

What does Pandora cost? I've never checked out anything except Sirius in our car.

I use Pandora app on my cell phone and have a small bluetooth speaker.. Sounds pretty darn good,  My son has a "BOOM" brand speaker which sound good but the one they just got me for fathers day is this one from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07235Z1GY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

As for the app.. I use the free verson which has some commercials / ads.. but I think ad free is $5.99 a month?  I don't mind a commercial ever 4-8 songs so I'm cheap..

You can download it free on a smart phone or you can go online and sign up -- if you don't mind commercials it is free -- or you can pay 5.00 a month to get rid of commercials -- There is another price of 10 a month but I don't know what that adds -- If your car radio takes bluetooth then you can play it there through your phone

I listen to Google Music on my phone when I'm not listening to podcasts while I am in the shop or out and about. I have a family account with Google that allows five people to use it and includes all the YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube for kids with no adds. The Family account is $14.99 per month for five people.  They have just about anything you want in music and you can upload your music. Purchased music is DRM free and you can download it.

In the shop, I almost always wear ear protection. My ear protection of choice is the 3m Worktunes connect. They have both wired and Bluetooth. On the rare occasions where I don't have them on because I'm doing something quiet my Bosh shop radio either by plugging in with a cable to my phone or using a Bluetooth adapter.

If you like Clapton I'm pretty confident you would like JJ Cale and Gary Moore (Moore is pretty well under rated)

Thanks Cashew, I'll check them both out. I have 4 Clapton cd's and I put them in my player out in the shop and just zone out to the blues. Great music for working.

Ooh, I like that J.J. Cale. I just downloaded it.

You might check out Joe Bonamassa,  Ronnie Earl, and John Mayall as well
