wood is a mystery, will have to check my book of wood pics, my own design, just used the table saw to cut about an 1/2 inch cut for the lid, scrolled cut the inside box, bottom is oak plywood 1/4 inch red felt finished with linseed oil with an oak knob i got from the store. easy and simple, but looks great

It sure does look great Jim.You know how to pick the best looking wood for your projects.So this is mystery wood,guess i'll have to go get some too! lol.Next time turn a fancy one of a kind knob on that lathe you just bought .That will make it real interesting with a knob from cj's.Id'll give you a reason to fire up that lathe!She's a beauty!

thanks Kevin, would love to turn my own knobs, but i am still learning, hopefully soon i can do that, been rearranging my shop, and i got my lathe on a flatter table, but needs some more work put into it, fasting it down

I have been looking at boxes to see the best way to make and incorperate something more than 4 alike strips of wood a top and bottom. This is a grand Idea to use on a special piece of wood such as you have done. Ill be looking for that special piece now. Have you discovered what type of wood you used yet???? Monkey ??? Indoneasian toyin??
