spirithorse Posted July 4, 2020 Report Posted July 4, 2020 Well, it seems my life has devolved into bird watching with old age and declining health. LOL I remind myself every day that there are LOTS of people that would trade places with me in a heart-beat. Here are a few pics of hummingbirds and a woodpecker that has been visiting with me. Unfortunately, the hummingbirds have to be in the correct lighting to see the beautiful emerald green feathers and ruby red throat and I haven't caught any good photos in that lighting yet. I think the second photo is a newborn and was surprised to learn that they leave the nest at between 18 and 28 days. I hope you enjoy the pics. God Bless! LarryEA Posted July 4, 2020 Report Posted July 4, 2020 Very nice pictures. Especially the Woodpacker. Quote
Rockytime Posted July 4, 2020 Report Posted July 4, 2020 Love your pictures. I wish we were fortunate to have hummingbirds. We do have woodpeckers which love our suet feeder. I understand old age. Everything I do is very slow. Quote
Gordster Posted July 4, 2020 Report Posted July 4, 2020 Great pictures Bob,take care and be well.... Quote
Dan Posted July 4, 2020 Report Posted July 4, 2020 Nice Bob. We get a lot of woodpeckers but rarely a redheaded woodpecker. Quote
dansnow Posted July 4, 2020 Report Posted July 4, 2020 We have three feeders and some Mandevilla vines in our backyard and have several hummers visiting. Discovered they are very aggressive, territorial little critters, but very beautiful and fun to watch. Last year had two wander into the house through an open door. Much hilarity ensued marshaling them back outside. Quote
amazingkevin Posted July 4, 2020 Report Posted July 4, 2020 this made my day. thanks and I've got one got in the grave allready. Quote
meflick Posted July 5, 2020 Report Posted July 5, 2020 I love hummingbirds. I was standing in my work room the other day and looked at my window to see one at a flower I have outside the window. First one I had ever seen there. WayneMahler 1 Quote

My wife had a hummingbird go into the garage while she was in there and, unfortunately, with all the screaming and confusion, the hummingbird flew into a window pane to try to escape and killed itself. I really felt sad to see the poor thing on the floor. God Bless! Spirithorse meflick 1 Quote

I tell her that is the reason that I can't retire we can't afford the bird seed. We usually feed 120lbs Sunflower seeds, 25 lbs Thistle seed, 30 suite cakes and 10 to 15 lbs of sugar for the Hummers each month. That said we have almost every bird that is native to WV. We average about 30 Hummers and up to 100 Goldfinches at a time. There are worse things that setting on the porch early morning with a cup of Coffee and watching the birds. Kick back end enjoy the well earned rest. spirithorse 1 Quote
