I used 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. After sanding with the Sand Flee, dipped in diluted Shellac. After drying, a final sanding with the Mac Mop. I will have to check the latest issue, is that out yet? I let my subscription quit so I don't know if I will be getting that one or not. Saw those in the magazine, been toying with the idea of copying them and cutting them....then I look at the (large) stack of patterns I already have taped/attached/drilled/ready-to-go....
